Sony has announced two new PlayStation wireless headsets: the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset, due in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, and the feature-rich Pulse Edge Wireless Headset, planned for early 2027. Both use custom planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link connectivity, simultaneous connections to supported Bluetooth devices, and microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection. Sony has not announced prices, preorder dates, or exact launch dates.
What’s new in Sony’s PlayStation headset lineup?
The new over-ear models are designed for PS5 audio, with PlayStation Link support also extending to other devices Sony names: PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. Both headsets have rotating earcups that let them lie flat for portability and come in White and Midnight Black.

Sony says the headsets use custom, studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers for sound separation and spatial accuracy. Those are the manufacturer’s claims; the announcement does not provide independent listening tests or measured audio results.

Edge is the more fully equipped option: it adds active noise cancellation, a detachable boom mic alongside its hidden mic, PS5 game audio/chat balance controls, a carrying case, and an audio/microphone jack. Sony says Edge’s planar drivers have twice the magnet volume per driver compared with Pulse, which it says is intended to provide richer, deeper bass while preserving precision and clarity. That is a manufacturer description, not an independently verified sound-quality result. The feature list is based on Sony’s announcement, not hands-on testing.

Connectivity and device support
Sony says PlayStation Link provides lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and lets users switch between compatible Link devices. It names PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac as supported devices. Both headsets can also connect simultaneously to supported Bluetooth devices, but Sony does not enumerate every compatible Bluetooth product or explain all connection behavior, codecs, or platform-specific features. The compatibility claim should not be read as a promise that every Bluetooth device or every headset feature works on every platform.

Sony’s September 15, 2026 announcement gives broad launch windows rather than firm dates: the Pulse Wireless Headset is set to start launching in select markets in the 2026 holiday season, while Pulse Edge is planned to start launching in early 2027. Prices, preorder timing, exact release dates, and market-by-market availability were not provided. Sony says further details will follow.
