You can add up to 32 Sonos products to one system, according to Sonos Support. That figure is a limit on products—not a promise of 32 standalone speakers or 32 rooms. Grouped playback and home-theater surround setups are separate considerations.
What does Sonos count toward the 32-product limit?
Sonos’ support article says, “You can add up to 32 products to a single system.” The limit applies to products on one system; Sonos does not describe it as a maximum of 32 standalone speakers or 32 rooms. Sonos’ instructions for adding a product explain how to expand an existing system.

How do you add another Sonos product?
- Connect the product to power and wait for its status light to flash green.
- Open the Sonos app on an iOS or Android device.
- Go to Settings, then choose Add Speaker or Component in the system section.
- Follow the prompts in the app to complete setup.
How are system size, groups, and surrounds different?
System size
The 32-product figure is the maximum Sonos states for products added to one system. It describes the system’s total product count.
Grouped playback
You can group two or more products to play the same content in sync. A group is a playback arrangement, not the total system, and Sonos distinguishes a group from a more permanent zone. See Sonos’ guide to grouping and ungrouping rooms.
#1 Best Overall
- The new acoustic architecture replaces Move's single tweeter with two, unlocking a higher-fidelity stereo soundstage with crisp vocals and detailed instruments. With deep, dynamic bass powered by the precision-tuned woofer, you'll feel the emotional charge of a live performance.
- With automatic Trueplay tuning, Move 2 continually optimizes the sound for its surroundings. So, no matter where you are or what you play, you get the best listening experience.
- Listen twice as long as with the previous generation. All the acoustic updates work in concert for increased efficiency, giving you up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge.
- Shock absorbent materials protect against accidental drops, and the IP56 rating ensures spills, splashes, rain, dirt, and dust don't dampen your listening experience.
- Use the built-in handle to bring your music from one place to the next. When the battery needs a boost, set Move 2 on the included Wireless Charging Base, upgraded with a detachable power cable and more compact adapter. Charge on the go with any USB-PD power supply.
Home-theater surrounds
A compatible Sonos home-theater product can use two Sonos speakers as surrounds. Sonos generally recommends matching models, with certain related-model pairings allowed; compatibility depends on the home-theater product. For example, Sonos lists Era 100 as compatible with Beam (Gen 2). Check the surround-sound compatibility guidance for the specific model you own. This two-speaker arrangement is not a rule for every room or product.
What can prevent a larger system from connecting?
The 32-product maximum is not the only practical consideration: the app and Sonos products need to be on the same subnet. Sonos also lists some unsupported network setups, including guest networks that require portal logins, routers that provide only 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and VPNs that block local-network access. For extending wireless coverage, Sonos recommends mesh Wi-Fi rather than range extenders. These are connectivity requirements, not a different device-count limit; see Sonos’ system requirements.

Is there another Sonos limit to keep in mind?
Sonos states that a music library can contain up to 65,000 songs, though large amounts of metadata can cause the memory limit to be reached earlier. This is a separate music-library limit; it does not change how many products the system can contain.
