SonicWall says two vulnerabilities in SMA 1000 appliances are being actively exploited. Its September 1, 2026 notice identifies the pre-authentication server-side request forgery (SSRF) as CVE-2026-83548—not CVE-2026-102255—and lists fixed hotfixes 12.4.3-03526 and 12.5.0-02952. Administrators should verify their exact build, apply the applicable current hotfix, and arrange a compromise review.

Which CVE does SonicWall identify?

The headline identifier, CVE-2026-102255, is not corroborated by the official notices reviewed. SonicWall Product Notice SNWLID-2026-0016 and alerts from NHS England Digital and CERT-In identify the pre-authentication SSRF as CVE-2026-83548. The companion post-authentication remote-code-execution vulnerability is CVE-2026-83549. Use CVE-2026-83548 when referring to the SSRF unless an authoritative correction establishes a different identifier.

SonicWall rates CVE-2026-83548 CVSS 10.0 (Critical) and CVE-2026-83549 CVSS 7.8 (High). The vendor says both vulnerabilities have been confirmed as actively exploited in the wild. The SSRF is described as occurring through an unintended forward-proxy in the SMA1000 Appliance Work Place interface.

What is affected, and what is not?

SonicWall lists these SMA 1000 models: 6210, 7210, and 8200v (all hypervisors). Its notice identifies platform-hotfix builds 12.4.3-03453 and 12.5.0-02835 as affected, specifying all versions of those builds. NHS England Digital also describes older versions in the respective branches as affected, so administrators should not assume that a build is safe simply because it predates the listed builds.

How to respond

  1. Identify the appliance and build. Inventory the model, whether it is physical or virtual, and its exact platform-hotfix version. Compare these details with SonicWall Product Notice SNWLID-2026-0016.
  2. Upgrade to the latest applicable hotfix. Use MySonicWall to confirm the current supported release for the appliance’s firmware branch. The notice lists 12.4.3-03526 and 12.5.0-02952 as fixed builds.
  3. Request an indicators-of-compromise review. Contact SonicWall Technical Support to review the appliance for indicators of compromise (IoCs). Applying a fix does not establish whether an appliance was previously compromised.
  4. If IoCs are found, follow SonicWall’s recovery guidance. SonicWall says to re-image hardware or redeploy virtual appliances, change all user and administrator passwords, and reset TOTP tokens.

The NHS England Digital alert says the flaws could be chained to enable an unauthenticated attacker to perform remote code execution. Keep the individual prerequisites distinct: CVE-2026-83548 is pre-authentication, while CVE-2026-83549 is post-authentication and requires administrator authentication, according to the alert. This distinction does not reduce the urgency of patching, particularly given SonicWall’s report of active exploitation.
