The package includes the remastered Sonic Generations experience. That makes the release relevant to someone who wants to revisit Sonic Generations on a current platform without assembling a separate purchase history for that game.

The Shadow Generations campaign
Shadow Generations is the other major component. Official product listings consulted present it as included in SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS; they do not list Shadow Generations as a separate store purchase. Therefore, a reader asking “Can I buy Shadow Generations separately?” should currently treat the answer as not through the official listings checked. There is no documented current total for buying “the Sonic games individually.” That phrase could mean one older title, several selected titles, a particular edition, or every game represented in a fan’s personal wish list. The platform, region, current sale, ownership history and edition all have to be specified before a meaningful total can be calculated.
How the individual-purchase comparison works
If you want both included experiences
For someone who wants the remastered Sonic Generations experience and the Shadow Generations campaign, the combined release is the evidenced purchase route. Since Shadow Generations is not shown as a separate official purchase in the listings checked, there is no like-for-like individual price to subtract from the package.
If you only want older Sonic games

The Legacy Bundle is a different proposition from SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS. SEGA’s FAQ says the original Sonic Generations remains available through that bundle after its standalone delisting. The FAQ lists a $59.99 US price and explicitly warns that both contents and price can vary by region. Treat it as a bundle for a wider catalogue, not as a substitute for the newer Shadow Generations campaign unless the store description for your region says otherwise.

Steam’s delisting caveat for PC buyers
On September 9, 2024, SEGA delisted the original version of Sonic Generations as a standalone Steam purchase. According to SEGA’s FAQ, it remains part of the Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle. This creates two easy mistakes:
- Comparing the new combined release with an old standalone Steam price that new buyers can no longer obtain.
- Assuming the Legacy Bundle has identical contents or pricing in every country.
Before purchasing on PC, open the current store page and check whether you are buying SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS, the Legacy Bundle, or another edition. If you already own the original game, check exactly what entitlement your account has instead of assuming a bundle or remaster is automatically discounted.
Subscription access can change the incremental cost
The US PlayStation page indicates access through the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. Catalog membership is not the same as owning a permanent license: eligibility, catalog availability and subscription pricing can change, and the US listing does not establish the same access in every country.
For a subscriber, the relevant comparison is often not “$49.99 versus the price of every individual game.” It is:
- the extra cost, if any, to access the game through the catalog;

- whether you need continued membership to play; and
- whether you want ownership that remains available after a catalog change.
Check the live catalog page for your account region before treating subscription access as a saving.
Standard versus Digital Deluxe: is the extra $10 justified?
In the retrieved US Steam snapshot, Standard was $49.99 and Digital Deluxe was $59.99, a $10 difference at that moment. The Deluxe package is worthwhile only when its listed extras have personal value:

A physical copy can be the better fit when resale, gifting or a shelf collection matters. Compare the exact platform edition—such as a PS5 or Nintendo Switch release—with the equivalent digital Standard Edition. Include delivery, local tax, retailer return rules and any storage or installation requirements in the total. A retailer’s “special” package may not include the Digital Deluxe extras, so read the contents list rather than relying on the box title.

For music collectors, SEGA announced the Perfect | Reflections – Sonic X Shadow Generations Original Soundtrack for release on December 25, 2024. It is optional physical media and does not add playable content. Stock, shipping and any retailer-partner availability should be checked separately; do not treat the soundtrack as part of either game edition unless the listing explicitly says so.
Value scenarios in plain language
- New player who wants Shadow and Sonic: Start with the local Standard Edition price. It is the only listed route that combines both advertised experiences.
- Fan who owns the old Sonic Generations: Count the remaster as an upgrade you may or may not value, then judge the purchase mainly by Shadow Generations and any desired extras.
- Retro-focused buyer: Price the older games individually or select a legacy bundle. Paying for a new Shadow campaign you will not play is not a saving.

Common mistakes that distort the comparison
- Assuming “Shadow Collection” is an official product name. Search for SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS and inspect the contents listed for your platform.
