These are SEGA’s published platform specifications. The original Switch’s eight-player figure refers to local wireless play, not eight players sharing a single split-screen display. SEGA lists online play for up to 12 players, but that is a separate play context and not the local player limit.

Which modes support local multiplayer?
- Grand Prix: available for local and online play.
- Race Park: available for local and online play.
- World Match: online-only.
For an in-person race on one console, choose a mode SEGA identifies as playable locally: Grand Prix or Race Park.

SEGA’s published platform and mode information does not specify exact menu labels, which buttons to press, or how additional controllers join. Those details should not be assumed to be identical across platforms or game versions. Use the game’s on-screen prompts rather than relying on an unverified button sequence.

- Connect or pair the controllers you intend to use, following your console’s usual controller setup instructions.
- Open Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and select a mode identified as available locally, such as Grand Prix or Race Park.
- Follow the game’s on-screen instructions to add players and begin the race.
If the game does not recognize another controller, check that the console recognizes it first, then follow the prompts shown in your game version. For platform-specific help, consult SEGA support. The published sources do not establish that a local split-screen group can join an online match together.

SEGA supports online play for up to 12 players and crossplay across platforms for online competition. That online maximum should not be confused with the local limit: local play is capped at four on the listed platforms, while the original Switch’s separate local wireless option supports up to eight. Crossplay support alone does not confirm that a group playing locally on one console can enter an online match together.
