Song Peel offers three ways to split a song, and the right one depends on what you want to keep: use AI Vocal Remover for an instrumental, AI Acapella Extractor for an isolated vocal, or Karaoke Maker for a karaoke backing track. The first two use AI stem separation and let you preview the result before a listed $3 full-song purchase; Karaoke Maker is free and uses a different, stereo-dependent method.

How to split a song with Song Peel
- Choose a tool based on the output you need: instrumental, isolated vocal, or karaoke backing track.
- Open that tool’s page and upload your audio file. Song Peel lists WAV, MP3, AAC, OGG, and FLAC support, with a maximum file size of 500 MB.
- Let the tool process the audio, then preview the result. Listen closely before deciding whether it is suitable for practice, editing, or a performance.
- For AI Vocal Remover or AI Acapella Extractor, use the page’s “Buy Full Song ($3)” option if you want the full processed song after previewing.
Song Peel describes the two AI tools as browser-based. The documented workflow is to provide an audio file, process and preview it, then obtain the full result through the displayed purchase flow where applicable.

AI Vocal Remover: keep the instrumental
This is the option when you want the music without the lead vocal—for example, to rehearse, sing karaoke, make a backing track, or listen more closely to the beat, chords, bass, and arrangement. Song Peel says its processing uses stem separation rather than a rough mute.

AI Acapella Extractor: keep the vocal
Choose this when the vocal itself is the material you need for a remix, mashup, DJ edit, vocal chop, or close study of phrasing, timing, harmonies, and breaths. It reverses the Vocal Remover’s goal: the aim is to isolate the singer rather than leave the music behind.
Karaoke Maker: use OOPS cancellation
Karaoke Maker is not the same separation approach as the AI tools. Song Peel says it uses OOPS, or out-of-phase stereo, to cancel sound shared between the left and right channels. That makes the method dependent on the mix: it works best when a vocal is perfectly centered in a stereo song. Song Peel points users toward AI Vocal Remover for more complex arrangements or mono audio.

What affects the quality of a vocal split?
Separation is not guaranteed to leave a perfectly clean instrumental or vocal. Results depend on how the original song was mixed. A clear, centered lead vocal in a balanced stereo mix is generally a more favorable starting point than a dense or heavily processed arrangement.

- More challenging: stacked harmonies, heavy ad-libs, modulation and other effects, wide harmonies, live-room sound, and densely layered production can leave vocal bleed or artifacts.
- For OOPS Karaoke Maker: a mono file or a vocal that is not perfectly centered is a poor match for the method.
- For either AI tool: the tool’s intended output differs, but both are separating parts of a finished mix, so remnants or glitches can remain.
Start with the highest-quality source file you have. Preview the chorus as well as a quieter section: a busy chorus often makes bleed and glitches easier to notice. For casual home practice, a little residual vocal may be tolerable; it can be more distracting in a recording or live performance.

Choosing between AI separation and OOPS
Use the desired output as the first decision, then consider the method and the source. If you need a vocal stem, Karaoke Maker is not the relevant option.
