Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If websites fail in every browser, start with the shared connection, device, or network—not browser extensions or cache. First establish whether the problem affects one site or many, then compare browsers, devices, and networks to narrow down where it starts.
First, find out how widely the problem occurs
Check that the web address is spelled correctly, then try a second site you know should be available. Note the exact error message; it may indicate a connection, DNS, proxy, or certificate problem. Mozilla and Google both recommend checking whether one site or multiple sites are affected before changing settings (Mozilla’s website-loading guide; Google’s Chrome connection and loading guide).

| What you observe | Most useful next check |
|---|---|
| One site fails, while other sites open | Check the address and the site’s availability; then try another browser or device. |
| Many sites fail in one browser, but work in another | Investigate that browser’s proxy, extensions, site data, and settings. |
| Many sites fail in every browser on one device | Check that device’s connection, clock, DNS, and security settings. |
| Many sites fail on multiple devices using the same network | Check the router or modem, then contact the network administrator or ISP if needed. |
| Only one site fails across devices or networks | The site may be unavailable or under maintenance; retry later or contact the site. |
Comparing another device or network is a practical way to isolate the problem: if the same device works on a different network, the original network is a likely place to investigate; if other devices also fail on that network, a browser-specific cause is less likely.

If every browser is affected on this device
When browsers fail alike, a browser’s cache or extension is less likely to be the only cause. Check the shared parts of the setup first.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Verify the connection and network
- Confirm Wi-Fi or Ethernet is connected and that the device is using the intended network.
- On public Wi-Fi, open a browser and complete the network’s sign-in or access portal if prompted.
- Check the router or modem status. Restart network equipment only if appropriate for your network and you can safely do so; Google’s Chrome guidance includes checking the connection and restarting the modem or router where needed.
- If the device supports Ethernet and Wi-Fi may be the issue, a wired connection can help distinguish a wireless problem from a broader connection failure. It is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix.
Correct the system clock
Check the device’s date, time, and time zone. A wrong clock can interfere with secure website certificate validation. Correct it and try again before weakening browser security or bypassing a certificate warning.
Review security, proxy, and managed-network restrictions
Firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, privacy software, VPN or proxy settings, and enterprise network rules can affect more than one browser. Change only settings you understand; if the device or network is managed by an employer, school, or other organization, ask its administrator. Apple notes that enterprise firewalls can prevent access to websites (Apple’s Mac web-page guidance).

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Consider DNS
DNS translates a site’s domain name into the address computers use to reach it. If DNS lookup fails, browsers may be unable to find sites even when they are otherwise working. Mozilla recommends flushing the DNS cache as one possible step; its guide gives ipconfig /flushdns for Windows and says restarting macOS flushes its cache (Mozilla’s cross-browser troubleshooting guide). Use instructions for your operating system—do not run a Windows command on another platform. Changing DNS providers is a more advanced step, not the first thing to try.
If the issue is limited to one browser
If the same site opens in another browser, focus on the browser that fails. Google’s Chrome guidance and Mozilla’s website troubleshooting both point to browser settings, extensions, and stored site data as possible causes.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
- Try a private or incognito window. If the site opens there, an extension or stored site data may be involved.
- Isolate extensions. Disable extensions, test the site, then re-enable them one at a time to identify whether one is responsible.
- Clear only relevant site data or cache. This can sign you out, so avoid clearing more than needed.
- Check proxy settings. A proxy refusal or an error such as “Unable to find the proxy server” points toward proxy configuration.
- Update and restart the browser. Retry after it has restarted.
If just one website will not open
Try the exact address again and check whether other sites load. Then test the target in another browser and, if available, on another device or network. If only that site continues to fail across those checks, the problem may be with the site rather than your browser or connection. Apple’s guidance is direct: “The website may be unavailable temporarily. Try again later.”

When to contact someone for help
- If other devices on the same network also cannot load websites, contact your ISP or network administrator.
- If the problem is limited to one managed device or network, ask the person or team that administers it before changing restricted settings.
- If only one site remains unavailable across devices and networks, contact that site or try again later.
