The company says it is working with partners to expand support to all available models; it has not announced a rollout date. That leaves owners who cannot find an HDR option— including one HP Googlebook owner who reported the issue—without a model-specific answer for now.
What Google has said about Googlebook HDR
A response in a Googlebook discussion says: “HDR support, including in YouTube and Netflix, is available on certain Googlebook models today. We are working with our partners to expand HDR support to all available Googlebook models.” A follow-up repeats that some models already support HDR and says to stay tuned for updates. The response does not identify its speaker or provide a verifiable job title, so it should be understood as a statement in the discussion, not attributed to a named executive. Crucially, the statement does not name the supported models, say whether support differs between YouTube and Netflix on a given device, or give a date for broader availability. Google’s wording supports a limited conclusion: some models have HDR playback today, and the company says it is working with partners to expand support. It does not establish that every model will receive it, or when.
What the HP Googlebook owner reported—and what it proves
The October 10 discussion began with an HP Googlebook owner saying YouTube showed no videos with HDR support on their device. Other commenters described similar missing HDR indicators, including on Dell devices. These are individual reports, not controlled tests, and they do not establish a defect affecting every HP or Dell model. (Discussion thread)

Nor does the available statement confirm that the HP Googlebook 14 supports HDR or promise that a particular update will add it. A missing HDR label in YouTube is evidence of what that owner saw, not proof of the device’s full capabilities or of a platform-wide problem.
Why a 3K OLED screen does not settle the question
HP describes its Googlebook 14 as having a 3K OLED touchscreen with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Those are display specifications, but they do not by themselves establish HDR playback compatibility. A screen’s panel type, resolution, and refresh rate are distinct from whether a specific device and streaming service support HDR playback. (HP product announcement)
Google’s launch announcement describes a five-model family from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with displays up to 2.8K and a starting price of $899. That is lineup-level context, not a model-by-model HDR list; HP’s separately advertised 3K figure should not be mistaken for a contradiction about HDR. (Google announcement, September 21, 2026)

Googlebook launch context
Google announced the first five Googlebooks on September 21, 2026. Retail availability began October 4 in the United States and October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia. Google describes the devices as combining ChromeOS and Android technology, with Android apps available through Google Play. The first wave uses either Intel Core Ultra 5 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors. None of those launch details identifies which models support HDR. What to check before buying or troubleshooting
If HDR is important, look for confirmation tied to the exact model and the service you plan to use—YouTube, Netflix, or both. The public statements cited here do not provide that model-and-service matrix. Do not treat OLED, a high resolution, or a high refresh rate as confirmation.
- Check the exact model name, not only the manufacturer or the Googlebook family name.
- Look for an explicit HDR compatibility statement that names both that model and the streaming service.
- If you already own a device, distinguish a missing HDR indicator in one YouTube report from verified support status across services and models.
- Do not assume an update date: Google has announced no schedule in the cited statement.
Until Google or its partners publish a model-specific list, the available information cannot answer whether a particular HP Googlebook—or any other exact model—currently supports HDR in YouTube or Netflix.
