If Warzone appears to use integrated graphics or shows only 0–10% GPU usage on Windows 10, first verify the active GPU engine, then assign the game to the dedicated adapter in Windows Graphics settings. Update the matching driver, let shader preloading finish, repair the game files, close conflicting utilities, and confirm that the hardware meets Warzone’s requirements.
Why Warzone can show low GPU usage
A low percentage in Task Manager is not, by itself, proof that Warzone selected the wrong graphics processor. Menus, frame-rate caps, loading screens and CPU-limited scenes can leave the GPU mostly idle even when the correct adapter is rendering the game. A reliable diagnosis combines the GPU engine attached to the Warzone process with changes in VRAM use and frame rate during an actual match or repeatable benchmark scene.

On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, Windows 10 makes the per-app choice. NVIDIA states that the processor selected by Windows overrides a preferred-processor setting in NVIDIA Control Panel. That means changing only the vendor control panel may not change the adapter Warzone uses.

1. Confirm which GPU Warzone is using
Check the GPU engine in Task Manager
- Start Warzone and enter a match or another demanding, repeatable scene rather than judging from the main menu.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. If the compact view appears, select More details.
- Open the Processes tab, right-click a column heading and enable GPU engine and GPU.
- Find the Warzone process. The engine entry identifies the adapter and engine handling the workload, such as a 3D engine on a numbered GPU.
- Open the Performance tab and match that GPU number to the adapter name. Check whether dedicated VRAM use and total GPU activity change while you move through the scene.
If Warzone is attached to the integrated adapter, continue to the Windows assignment step. If it is attached to the dedicated adapter but usage remains low, the issue is more likely a CPU limit, frame cap, menu workload, shader state or software conflict than an adapter-selection failure.

Use a workload change as a second check
Record the frame rate and VRAM use, then change resolution or a major quality setting and repeat the same scene. A meaningful change in GPU workload supports the conclusion that the dedicated processor is active. No change can indicate that the scene is CPU-limited or that a cap is controlling frame rate; it does not automatically prove that the GPU is broken.
2. Assign Warzone to the dedicated GPU in Windows 10
Windows provides the authoritative per-application setting when more than one GPU is installed. NVIDIA’s support guidance says the Windows selection overrides NVIDIA Control Panel preferences, and Microsoft documents the same Graphics settings workflow.
- Open Settings from the Start menu.
- Go to System → Display → Graphics.
- Under the app list, choose the option to add a desktop app. Browse to the Warzone executable if it is not already listed.
- Select the Warzone entry and choose Options.
- Select High performance. The dialog should identify the discrete NVIDIA or AMD adapter that Windows will use.
- Select Save, close Settings, fully exit Warzone and its launcher, then start the game again.
Do not interpret “High performance” as a guaranteed frame-rate increase. It only tells Windows which adapter to use. If the dedicated GPU is already active, this setting will not remove a CPU bottleneck, a frame cap or a shader-compilation workload.

When the executable is difficult to find
If the launcher shows more than one executable, add the file that actually runs the game rather than a launcher shortcut. Start Warzone once, return to the Graphics settings list and check whether the running process is the one you assigned. A setting applied to a launcher but not the game executable may have no effect.
3. Update the graphics driver and Windows
Install the driver that matches the adapter physically installed in the computer, restart Windows, and keep Windows 10 on the latest update available for your edition. Download drivers from the installed GPU vendor—AMD, NVIDIA or Intel—rather than selecting a package for a different adapter family.
Activision’s current troubleshooting page revision lists these driver references: AMD 25.12.1; NVIDIA desktop/notebook 591.59; NVIDIA workstation 582.08; and Intel 32.0.101.8531. Those numbers are tied to that page revision and can change, so compare the current recommendation with the driver offered for your exact model before installing.

- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
- Open Device Manager and expand Display adapters to identify the installed GPU.
- Download the matching Windows 10 driver from AMD, NVIDIA or Intel.
- Install it, restart the computer, and repeat the Task Manager check in a match.
- If Device Manager shows a warning icon, an error code or only the integrated adapter when a discrete card should be present, resolve that driver or hardware detection problem before changing Warzone settings.
A clean driver installation can be useful when an update was interrupted or the existing package is corrupted, but use the vendor installer’s documented options and keep a recovery path. Do not install a workstation package on a consumer card or an Intel package on an AMD or NVIDIA adapter.
4. Let shader preloading finish
Shader preloading is part of Warzone’s first launch after a game or graphics-driver update. Activision advises remaining at the main menu until the process completes. Opening a match or navigating away interrupts preloading and can lead to performance problems, stutter or inconsistent GPU activity.
- Start Warzone after the update.
- Remain on the main menu while the shader-preloading indicator runs.
- Do not close the game, queue for a match or switch away until the indicator reports completion.
- Restart the game only after preloading has finished if the title requests it.
If preloading repeatedly restarts or never completes, treat that as a software-state problem and continue with file repair and conflict removal rather than repeatedly forcing the game into a match.

5. Repair the installation before reinstalling
Battle.net
- Open the Battle.net launcher and select Warzone.
- Open the game’s options menu.
- Choose Scan and Repair and allow the process to finish.
- Restart the launcher and test the same demanding scene.
Steam
- Open Steam and go to the Warzone entry in your Library.
- Open Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to replace damaged or missing files, then restart the game.
Repairing files addresses corruption without discarding the complete installation. Reinstalling the entire game should be a later option if the launcher’s repair process reports unresolved files or the problem survives the other checks.
6. Remove software conflicts
Activision specifically identifies NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner and Razer Cortex as applications that can conflict with the game. Monitoring overlays, tuning hooks and other background applications can also change how the game presents GPU activity or can prevent it from starting correctly.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Close those named utilities and any overlays or hardware-tuning tools before launching Warzone.
- Disable one suspected utility at a time when possible, so you can identify the conflict instead of changing many variables together.
- Retest in the same scene and compare the GPU engine, frame rate and VRAM use.
- If the issue remains, perform a Windows clean boot, then launch only the essential services and the game. Restore services in groups after testing so the conflicting service can be identified.
Antivirus exclusions require judgment. If your security setup permits it, adding the complete Warzone folder to its exception list can test whether scanning interference is involved. Use the narrowest exception possible, keep real-time protection decisions consistent with your security policy, and remove the exception if it does not change the result.

7. Check Windows, GPU and Warzone compatibility
Operating-system and graphics requirements
Activision states that Call of Duty: Warzone supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. Its requirements distinguish supported discrete-GPU classes and require 64-bit Windows. Check the requirement tier that matches the settings you intend to use, including the stated DirectX capability and VRAM requirement for that tier.
Integrated Intel graphics
Intel’s support guidance states that Intel integrated GPUs are not supported for Warzone 2.0. If a system has only integrated Intel graphics, assigning “High performance” cannot create a supported discrete adapter. A supported dedicated GPU is required for the applicable Warzone tier.
Verify the adapter is present
- In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
- Confirm that the dedicated NVIDIA or AMD card appears without a warning icon.
- Open its properties and check the device status. A driver error, disabled device or missing adapter must be corrected at the hardware or driver level.
- On a laptop, connect the charger and use the manufacturer’s normal performance mode while testing, because hybrid-graphics systems can expose both adapters to Windows.
If the discrete card is absent from Device Manager, the problem is not a Warzone graphics preference. Check power, physical seating, firmware settings and the computer manufacturer’s support procedure before returning to in-game troubleshooting.
8. A practical decision path when usage is still 0–10%
- Wrong engine: If Task Manager shows the integrated adapter, assign the Warzone executable to High performance in Windows Graphics settings, save and restart.
- Dedicated engine, low load: Test in a match, remove frame caps for the diagnostic run if you use one, and compare workload after changing resolution or quality. A CPU-limited scene can legitimately show low GPU utilization.
- Driver changed recently: Install the current vendor-matched package, restart, and allow shader preloading to complete before judging performance.
- Files or startup state suspect: Run the launcher’s repair process, close the named conflict applications and retest.
- Adapter missing or errored: Stop changing Warzone settings and repair the Device Manager, driver or hardware problem first.
- Unsupported hardware: If the computer has only an unsupported integrated GPU or does not meet the applicable 64-bit Windows, DirectX or VRAM tier, software settings cannot make it compliant.
9. Settings changes that are unlikely to solve adapter selection
Changing registry values, editing undocumented configuration files or repeatedly switching NVIDIA Control Panel preferences is weaker evidence than the Windows per-app assignment documented by Microsoft and NVIDIA. Such edits can create new variables without changing the adapter Windows has selected. Use reproducible checks—GPU engine, adapter name, VRAM activity and a repeatable scene—before attempting any undocumented tweak.
Likewise, do not treat a single menu reading as proof of failure, and do not assume that forcing the dedicated GPU will always increase frames per second. The setting answers one question— which adapter renders Warzone. Driver state, shader completion, file integrity, CPU limits, conflicts and hardware support determine what happens next.
