Genshin Impact Error 9907 is a storage-related failure that usually appears right when you’re trying to download, update, or install. The game isn’t just asking for “some space”—it needs enough free space for update staging and unpacking too.
This guide focuses on practical fixes that work across Windows, Android, iPhone/iPad, and PlayStation. You’ll also get a troubleshooting flow for the cases where the error persists even after you think you freed space.

Goal: get your update moving again by checking the right storage location, cleaning the right cache/data, and choosing the safest reinstall path when needed.
What Genshin Impact Error 9907 means
Error 9907 typically indicates the device can’t create temporary files for the current update/installation. Even if your total storage seems adequate, the update may fail because it needs additional working space during patch extraction.
#1 Best Overall
- Expand your storage in a flash: ideal for Android smartphones and tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows laptops.
- Up to 140MB/s transfer speeds to move up to 1000 photos per minute
- Load apps faster with A1-rated performance
- View, access, and back up your phone’s files in one location with the SanDisk Memory Zone app
- Relax knowing your card is backed by a 10-year limited warranty by SanDisk
Common triggers include: limited free space on the drive/app storage where the game is installed, stale update fragments, or a corrupted download that keeps the patch process from completing.
Before you troubleshoot: confirm your device context
Before changing anything, confirm three details—because the fix depends on them.
- Platform: Windows, Android, iPhone/iPad, PS4, or PS5.
- What you were doing: launching the game, installing a fresh version, or applying an update/patch.
- Where space is low: the system drive (Windows), device internal storage (mobile), or console storage/drive (PlayStation).
Minimum free space you should target
To reduce repeat failures, don’t rely on the game’s current size alone. Updates often require extra staging space.

| Platform | Recommended free space before updating |
|---|---|
| Windows (PC) | At least 10–20 GB free on the drive where the game/launcher files live |
| Android | At least 10–15 GB free on internal storage (more if you’re on a smaller device) |
| iPhone/iPad (iOS/iPadOS) | At least 10–15 GB free, plus headroom for temporary unpacking |
| PlayStation (PS4/PS5) | At least 10–20 GB free for the update process |
If you’re below those numbers, free space first—even before clearing anything. Cleaning helps, but it can’t create the temporary space the patcher needs.
Fixes that usually work first
- Restart the device. It clears stuck background tasks and finalizes partially written files.
- Free storage on the correct location. The drive/storage holding the game and launcher patch staging.
- Cancel the update/download and try again after freeing space. Don’t repeatedly restart without cleanup if you suspect a corrupted partial download.
- Use a stable network. Unstable Wi‑Fi can lead to partial patch files that keep failing.
Windows (PC) fixes
Check available disk space and where the game is installed
Most players fix the wrong drive. Check the drive letter that contains Genshin Impact files.
- Press Win and open File Explorer.
- Click This PC and look at free space per drive (e.g., C:, D:).
- Open your Genshin Impact installation folder (often under your launcher library location) and note which drive it’s on.
- Make sure that drive has at least 10–20 GB free before starting the update.
Clear the launcher/update cache
If you use the common Hoyoverse launcher, you can reduce update-staging failures by clearing cached leftovers. Exact menu names vary by launcher version, but the pattern stays consistent.

- Close Genshin Impact completely.
- Open the launcher settings (look for Settings or Options).
- Find a section for Cache, Downloads, or Repair.
- Choose Clear Cache (or an equivalent action) and restart the launcher.
- Start the update again.
If your launcher doesn’t expose a cache-clear button, use the verification step below first, then consider a reinstall if the error repeats.
Verify game files
Verification can remove corrupted patch fragments that occupy space but fail to complete the update.
- Open the launcher library view for Genshin Impact.
- Look for Verify integrity, Repair, or Check files.
- Run verification and wait for completion.
- Only after verification finishes, start the update again.
Reinstall with a larger free drive
If you’re chronically low on space, reinstalling to a drive with more free space is often the cleanest outcome.
- Back up any important screenshots/logs you care about (optional).
- Uninstall Genshin Impact from Settings > Apps (or via the launcher’s uninstall option).
- When reinstalling, choose a library/install location on a drive with 10–20 GB+ free.
- Start the installation and let it finish without interruption.
Android fixes
Free space on the internal storage and SD card settings
On many Android phones, the patcher needs internal storage even if some media is on an SD card.
- Open Settings > Storage.
- Check both Internal storage and any SD card entries.
- Ensure internal storage has at least 10–15 GB free.
- Delete large items (video files, downloaded installers, unused apps) from internal storage.
Clear Genshin Impact cache/data (carefully)
Clearing cache is low-risk. Clearing data may require re-downloading assets or re-login, depending on the app’s behavior.
- Open Settings > Apps > Genshin Impact.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Try the update again.
- If the error persists, go back and tap Clear data (last resort), then reboot the phone and retry.
Move media and reduce offline downloads
If you download lots of offline content (music/podcasts/videos), it can silently consume internal storage. Free up internal storage first.

- Move photos/videos to your SD card or cloud where supported.
- Delete downloaded offline media in apps like YouTube and music players.
- Check again in Settings > Storage before launching the update.
Re-download after clearing corrupted leftovers
If the patch download is stuck or repeatedly fails, clearing cache/data plus restarting is usually enough. If not, reinstall.
- Uninstall Genshin Impact.
- Reboot the phone.
- Install again and make sure internal storage still has 10–15 GB free during install.
iPhone/iPad (iOS/iPadOS) fixes
Check storage and free space properly
On iOS/iPadOS, the “free space” count must be high enough for temporary unpacking. If you’re near the limit, iOS can still block installation.
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage).
- Look for current free space.
- Free at least 10–15 GB by removing apps, deleting large videos, or offloading content.
- Try the update again.
Offload or reinstall the game
If cache cleanup isn’t possible the way it is on Android, reinstall/offload is the practical move.
Recommended Free Tools
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Select Genshin Impact.
- Choose Offload App first (keeps documents/data if supported).
- If you still hit Error 9907, choose Delete App and then reinstall from the App Store.
Manage iCloud and low-storage warnings
If iCloud Drive syncing or Photos optimization is ongoing, it can temporarily consume storage. Pause heavy syncing temporarily, then retry the update.
- Check for iCloud processes under your Apple ID settings.
- Temporarily pause large uploads if you see active background use.
- Retry after freeing storage and waiting a few minutes.
PlayStation (PS4/PS5) fixes
Free console storage and rebuild the database (when appropriate)
PlayStation updates need room for download and installation staging. If you’re short, you’ll get errors like 9907-style failures.
- On PS4/PS5, open Settings > Storage.
- Check free space on the system storage (and external drive if applicable).
- Free at least 10–20 GB by deleting older games/apps you don’t need.
- If updates still fail, consider rebuilding the database: Settings > System > Rebuild Database (only after you’ve freed space).
Update the game and remove stale packs
If you have previous installed content packs or partial installs, cleaning can reduce patcher conflicts.
Rank #4
- Go to your library and select Genshin Impact.
- Check installed add-ons/packs and remove anything that looks unused.
- Start the update again after you’ve freed space.
Common edge cases and gotchas
Free space looks sufficient, but the update still fails
Check where the update stages files. On Windows and Android, the patcher may need space on the same partition as the game/launcher, not just on the overall device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Windows: confirm the drive letter where Genshin is installed.
- Android: confirm internal storage availability even if data is partially stored elsewhere.
You have enough space for the game, but not for the patch staging
Updates often require additional temporary storage while files are unpacked and rearranged. That’s why you should aim for 10–20 GB free rather than “just a few GB.”
External storage, SD cards, and permissions
Some setups don’t grant the patcher reliable write access to SD cards or external media. If you’re on Android with moved data, return Genshin Impact to internal storage or ensure it’s fully accessible.
Corrupted partial downloads
If the download succeeded partway, you can end up with broken staging files that repeatedly trigger the same error. Clearing cache/data (mobile) or verification/repair (Windows) helps remove those fragments.
Troubleshooting flow: what to try in order
If you want a simple, reliable sequence, follow this order. It minimizes time wasted and avoids repeated failure loops.

FAQs
Does Error 9907 happen only during updates?
It most often shows up when downloading/applying patches or installing versions. In some cases, it can also appear when launching if the game checks for pending updates and can’t stage them.

Will clearing cache or data delete my progress?
Cache clearing usually won’t. Clearing app data can log you out or force the game to re-download certain assets. Your actual progress is tied to your Hoyoverse account, but always be ready to sign in again after reinstall/data reset.
What if I just want to keep playing and avoid reinstalling?
If the error blocks the update only, you may be able to play the currently installed version until the update requirement triggers again. If the game can’t patch at all, you’ll still need to free space and complete the patch process.
Why does my storage show plenty free, but the game still complains?
Because “plenty free” may be on the wrong partition (Windows) or not on the specific storage area the patcher uses (Android/iOS). Verify the game’s installation location and aim for the larger free-space targets listed above.

Error 9907 is usually a straightforward storage-staging problem. The fastest fix is confirming the correct drive/storage location, freeing at least 10–20 GB, then retrying the update after clearing cache or verifying files.
If the error repeats, don’t keep retrying blindly—use the repair/verification step once, then reinstall/offload to force a clean download and staging process.
