It automates the mixing, but it does not do everything: you supply cold water, a CO₂ cylinder and a compatible flavor bottle, then choose the drink size, fizz and flavor strength.
What is SodaStream Fountain?
SodaStream describes Fountain as an electric sparkling drink maker with an integrated flavor-dosing system. Unlike a basic sparkling-water maker, it combines carbonation and flavor dosing during dispensing. You can also set the flavor level to zero for plain sparkling water.

The coffee-machine comparison is about the dispensing format and controls, not about making coffee. Fountain has a removable water tank and dispenses a selected drink directly into a glass or larger vessel.

How does it make a drink?
- Insert a CO₂ cylinder.
- Fill the removable tank with cold water and return it to the machine.
- Fit a compatible flavor bottle with its Flavor Connect Cap.
- Select the drink size, carbonation level and flavor intensity.
- Dispense into a glass or other vessel. You can change flavors between drinks.
SodaStream says preparation takes under 30 seconds once preferences are set. That is the company’s product-page claim, not an independently verified timing result.

What can you adjust?
SodaStream support lists serving sizes of 8, 16 and 24 oz, four fizz settings including still, and flavor intensity from 0% to 100% in 25% increments. A boost option adds 25% syrup. The machine also has indicators for low CO₂ and for whether the water tank and flavor bottle are connected properly.
Those controls let you tailor a serving, but you still need to load and replenish the ingredients and handle the removable components. Flavors are sold separately.

Which drinks can Fountain make?
Fountain can make flavored fizzy drinks, still flavored drinks and plain sparkling water. The flavor control can be set to zero; the machine’s standard workflow is to carbonate water and dose flavor as it dispenses. SodaStream says its other current sparkling-water makers add flavor after carbonating water.

What supplies does it require?
Fountain requires compatible new flavor bottles and Flavor Connect Caps. SodaStream support says the machine is compatible only with those new bottles, so do not assume that another SodaStream flavor bottle or dosing format will fit. CO₂ and cold water are also needed. Check the current product listing in your market for included components and compatible supplies before buying; bundle contents and availability may vary.

Both machines make sparkling drinks, but their workflows differ. SodaStream distinguishes Fountain’s water-and-flavor dispensing system from MIX, which it says can carbonate drinks beyond water. MIX carbonates a drink in its bottle; the user releases pressure and pours it afterward.

For MIX, SodaStream advises using cold drinks and says to refrigerate the drink and carbonate it as cold as possible, preferably at 4°C. That guidance applies to MIX; it is not a claim that Fountain carbonates arbitrary beverages.

Who is Fountain for?
- Consider Fountain if you want an electric machine that combines carbonation and flavor dosing in a direct-to-glass workflow, with adjustable serving size and taste.
- Consider MIX instead if your priority is carbonating drinks such as juice or other liquids, and you are comfortable carbonating in a bottle before pouring.
- Check compatibility and availability if you already own SodaStream flavor supplies or need a particular flavor: Fountain requires its compatible new bottles and caps, and flavor selection varies by market.
