The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is substantially newer and posts higher scores in the benchmark results reported by 91mobiles. It also supports newer memory, storage and connectivity standards. The Snapdragon 865 remains a capable older platform, but the chip comparison alone cannot predict a phone’s sustained speed, battery life, temperature or overall value.

These figures describe platform support, not a guarantee about a finished handset. A phone maker chooses the installed RAM and storage, and handset design determines which connectivity, camera and display features are actually enabled. The 4 nm and 7 nm labels identify process technologies; they do not by themselves establish real-world battery efficiency.

CPU clocks
The 8s Gen 4’s listed maximum CPU clocks are higher than the Snapdragon 865’s: its prime core reaches up to 3.2 GHz, with performance cores up to 3.0 GHz, while Qualcomm lists the 865’s Kryo 585 CPU up to 2.84 GHz. Clock speed is only one part of performance; architecture, cooling, firmware and workload also matter.

Graphics
Qualcomm describes a newly sliced Adreno GPU architecture for the 8s Gen 4; the 865 uses Adreno 650. Qualcomm advertises a 49% GPU improvement for the 8s Gen 4 over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3—not over the Snapdragon 865. That vendor comparison should not be presented as a measured gain against the older chip.

In 91mobiles’ comparison, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 scored higher in the displayed AnTuTu and Geekbench results. Scores vary with handset, firmware, benchmark version, configuration and test conditions. The source identifies its AnTuTu figures as tested by 91mobiles, but the available information does not establish a controlled, identical-handset protocol. Treat the scores as a directional comparison, not a promise that a phone will feel a fixed number of times faster.

Connectivity, cameras and displays depend on the phone
The 8s Gen 4 lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 platform page lists Wi-Fi 6 and the X55 modem. A modem’s peak throughput specification is not a likely everyday download speed: supported bands, carrier network, signal and device implementation all affect results. Likewise, a chip’s camera and display limits do not tell you which sensors, lenses or panel a manufacturer has fitted, or which functions its software supports.

Qualcomm’s product brief cautions that results vary with OEM implementation and other factors. Its stated capabilities therefore describe what a platform can support, not features every phone using it will include.

If you are comparing two actual handsets, use the processor as one input rather than the whole decision. The 8s Gen 4 is the stronger choice on the listed specifications and reported benchmark results, but the available comparison does not provide controlled same-device thermal or battery testing.

- Check the exact phone’s RAM and storage configuration; platform maximums are not a promise about the model you are considering.
- Look for handset-level testing of sustained performance and heat if you play demanding games or run long workloads.
- Compare battery capacity and independent battery testing rather than inferring endurance from the process-node label.
- Verify camera hardware, software support, display specifications, network bands and update policy on the specific model.
- Check current regional availability and price. 91mobiles lists POCO F7 among 8s Gen 4 examples and OnePlus 8T among Snapdragon 865 examples; these are examples on its comparison page, not a complete or current availability list.
