Apple’s A19 leads the available reported Geekbench 6 CPU comparison, with higher single-core and multi-core scores than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. That does not make every iPhone 17 faster in every task than every phone using the Snapdragon chip: benchmark results depend on the device and test conditions, and the two processors run in different software ecosystems.
Which chip is faster in the reported benchmarks?
In NanoReview’s comparison, the A19 scores 3,692 in Geekbench 6 single-core and 9,454 in multi-core. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 scores 1,923 and 5,179, respectively. Those reported results favor A19 in both CPU tests.

NanoReview’s comparison draws on 9 A19 results and 64 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 results. It is a pooled comparison, not a controlled test of both chips in otherwise identical phones. Different devices, cooling, software versions, and test conditions can affect results, so treat the figures as a useful indication rather than a guarantee of performance in a particular app or phone. See NanoReview’s comparison.
Why other Geekbench figures differ
Tom’s Guide measured an iPhone 17 at 3,701 single-core and 9,460 multi-core in Geekbench 6. Those are review results for a particular phone, not the same pooled comparison reported above. They should not be combined as if they came from one test run or testing setup. Read the iPhone 17 review.

Geekbench’s mobile chart also lists iPhone 17 with A19, but it is a live chart: scores can change as submissions accumulate. Its values are not a controlled laboratory comparison. Check Geekbench’s mobile chart.
How the specifications compare
| Specification | Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 | Apple A19 |
|---|---|---|
| Device context | Qualcomm mobile platform; phone models and configurations vary by manufacturer. | Used in Apple iPhone 17. |
| CPU | 8 cores in comparison listings; Qualcomm identifies Kryo architecture and speeds up to 3 GHz. | 6 cores: 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. |
| GPU | Adreno GPU; Qualcomm’s brief identifies Vulkan 1.3 support. | 5-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing. |
| Process description | 4 nm, according to Qualcomm. | Third-generation 3-nanometer technology, according to Apple. |
| Connectivity | X70 5G modem and FastConnect 7800 with Wi-Fi 7 support. | In iPhone 17, Apple’s N1 wireless chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. |
| AI and imaging | Hexagon AI features and an 18-bit Spectra ISP, according to Qualcomm. | 16-core Neural Engine, updated ISP, and Neural Accelerators within GPU cores, according to Apple. |
Specifications come from the manufacturers’ product information and describe different platforms. Core counts and clock speeds alone do not determine real-world speed; neither do process labels, which are vendor-published descriptions rather than direct performance measures. Graphics features also use different APIs and device implementations, so the GPU rows do not establish a universal cross-platform graphics winner. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 specifications, Apple’s iPhone 17 announcement, and Apple’s iPhone 17 technical specifications describe these features.
What the scores do—and do not—tell you
CPU performance
Geekbench 6’s reported single-core and multi-core results are the clearest head-to-head CPU evidence in this comparison, and both favor A19. A benchmark score does not predict the exact speedup you will see in a particular task: apps use different parts of a chip and may be optimized differently for iOS and Android.

Graphics and gaming
The available evidence does not provide a controlled GPU comparison between these two chips. Apple says A19’s 5-core GPU is more than twice as fast as A15 Bionic’s GPU; that is Apple’s own claim against an A15 baseline, not a comparison with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Tom’s Guide recorded 130.97 fps for the iPhone 17 in 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited, but that is a result for one phone in one test, not a matched Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 comparison.
AnTuTu across iOS and Android
NanoReview reports AnTuTu 11 totals of 2,156,126 for A19 and 1,797,821 for Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while explicitly warning that iOS and Android AnTuTu results are not directly comparable. Do not treat those totals as a clean cross-platform verdict.
Efficiency, heat, and battery life
The process descriptions and synthetic scores do not establish which chip lasts longer on a charge or sustains higher performance during extended gaming. Those outcomes depend on the complete phone, including battery capacity, cooling, display, software, workload, and configuration. The evidence here does not support a chip-level battery-life or sustained-gaming ranking.

Connectivity, AI, and imaging are platform features
Qualcomm lists an X70 modem, FastConnect 7800, Wi-Fi 7 support, Hexagon AI features, and an 18-bit Spectra ISP for Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Apple’s iPhone 17 pairs A19 with its N1 wireless chip and lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread; Apple also documents its Neural Engine and updated ISP. These features may matter for particular wireless, camera, or AI tasks, but availability and behavior depend on device implementation and software support. They are not represented by the CPU scores above.

A19 is the stronger choice if your decision is limited to the reported Geekbench 6 CPU results. For a phone purchase, compare specific handsets rather than relying on chip names alone: the A19 is documented in iPhone 17, while Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 appears in Android phones whose models and configurations vary by manufacturer.
- Compare the actual phone’s price, availability, memory and regional configuration.
- Check software support and the apps or services you rely on.
- For gaming, look for testing of the exact phone under sustained load, not just a short benchmark score.
- Assess battery life, cooling, display, and camera as whole-device characteristics.
- Confirm that the connectivity and AI features you care about are supported by the phone and its software in your region.
Apple’s announcement describes A19’s CPU as 1.5 times faster than A15 Bionic in iPhone 13 and its GPU as more than twice as fast. These are Apple’s claims with A15 as the baseline; they do not establish a performance ratio against Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Apple’s announcement provides the stated comparisons.
