The chip reported under the name “Snapdragon 8s Elite” launched as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Early reports attributed a specific CPU layout and Geekbench scores to the still-in-testing SM8735, but those figures were leaks—not official retail specifications or results from a finished phone.

What happened to the Snapdragon 8s Elite?

“Snapdragon 8s Elite” was a rumor-era name for Qualcomm’s SM8735. On March 25, 2025, Android Authority reported a Digital Chat Station claim that the chip could instead be named Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Qualcomm’s product page now identifies the released platform as Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. In other words, the “8s Elite” label did not become the official product name.

What did the early Snapdragon 8s Elite leak claim?

Reported CPU configuration

Android Authority reported on January 14, 2025, that Digital Chat Station had attributed this arrangement to the SM8735:

  • One Cortex-X4 prime core at 3.21 GHz
  • Three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.01 GHz
  • Two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.80 GHz
  • Two additional cores at 2.02 GHz, whose identity was described as uncertain

The later March 25 report repeated the same clock-speed arrangement and attributed a TSMC 4 nm process and Adreno 825 GPU to the chip. Those details were prelaunch claims, not the official specifications Qualcomm lists for the released platform. Read the reports in Android Authority’s January 14 leak report and its March 25 report on the possible Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 name.

Preliminary Geekbench 6 scores

The January report attributed preliminary Geekbench 6 scores of 1,967 single-core and 5,827 multi-core to Digital Chat Station, while noting the chip was still being tested. These are rumor-era results from a testing configuration, not independently verified scores from a retail Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 phone. They also cannot establish how a particular handset will perform during extended gaming or other sustained workloads.

What Qualcomm officially lists for Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Qualcomm’s product page specifies a 64-bit Kryo CPU clocked up to 3.2 GHz, an Adreno GPU and a Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system. It lists peak download speed of up to 4.2 Gbps for 5G and peak speed of up to 5.8 Gbps for Wi-Fi 7. These are platform specifications, not promises of the speeds a user will see on a particular network or router.

Qualcomm also says the platform delivers 31% improved CPU performance, up to 49% improved GPU performance and up to 44% faster AI performance compared with the previous-generation Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The company’s page, accessed September 28, 2026, does not state a publication year for these comparisons. They are Qualcomm’s own comparisons, not independent handset test results. Its product page describes the CPU this way: “Our prime performance Kryo CPU delivers incredible efficiency, along with 31% improved performance and 3.2 GHz peak speeds.”

The platform page also describes AI, camera and gaming capabilities. Which features are enabled—and how they perform—depends on the phone maker’s implementation. Check the specifications for the exact handset and regional version rather than assuming every platform feature is available in every phone.

Which phones use the final chip?

One documented example is the POCO F7. In a Japanese supply-service announcement dated July 22, 2025, IIJ identified the phone as using Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. That establishes a handset association in that announcement; it does not confirm availability, pricing or the exact configuration in every country. Check the manufacturer or local seller’s specifications for the SKU offered in your region.

What the leak can—and cannot—tell you

The naming change is clear: the rumored “Snapdragon 8s Elite” became the officially named Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The early core arrangement and benchmark numbers remain attributed leak claims, while Qualcomm’s published clock, connectivity specifications and generational performance comparisons describe the released platform.

Neither a leaked benchmark nor a chip-level comparison predicts sustained performance, temperatures, battery life or gaming stability in every handset. Those outcomes depend on a phone’s cooling, power limits, software and other design choices; the cited leak reports and Qualcomm platform page do not provide independent sustained testing of a specific retail phone.
