The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is Qualcomm’s 2022 premium mobile platform, built on a 4 nm process and combining a Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon processor, Spectra image processor and Snapdragon X65 5G modem. Its performance depends on the phone using it: clock speeds, cooling and other device choices vary. One 2022 Geekbench 5 comparison of reference models found gains over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but those results are not guaranteed for every retail phone.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 specifications
Qualcomm announced the platform in May 2022. The specifications below describe platform capabilities, not a checklist of features every phone must include.

| Component | Specification | What it means in a phone |
|---|---|---|
| Process technology | 4 nm | Qualcomm’s product brief identifies the process node; it does not by itself determine a phone’s speed or battery life. |
| CPU | 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo; maximum clock listed as up to 3.2 GHz in one version, with a separate 3 GHz version | Maximum frequency varies by platform version and OEM implementation. Check the handset maker’s specifications for the exact model. |
| GPU | Qualcomm Adreno; OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.1 support | Gaming performance also depends on the phone’s cooling, software and power settings. |
| Modem | Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System; peak downloads up to 10 Gbps | The 10 Gbps figure is a theoretical platform capability, not a real-world speed guarantee. Network and device implementation matter. |
| Wi-Fi | FastConnect 6900, with Wi-Fi 6E support and peak speed up to 3.6 Gbps | Actual performance depends on the phone, router, network conditions and environment. |
| Memory | LP-DDR5 support up to 3200 MHz; memory density up to 16 GB | These are supported platform limits, not a promise that a particular phone has 16 GB of RAM. |
| Display | On-device display support up to 4K at 60 Hz or QHD+ at 144 Hz | The phone maker chooses the display and its supported resolution and refresh rate. |
| Imaging | Triple 18-bit Spectra ISP and simultaneous triple capture | The ISP’s capabilities do not determine camera quality on their own; sensors, lenses and image-processing software also shape results. |
What the benchmark results show
In Android Authority’s 2022 Geekbench 5 comparison of reference models, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 scored 6.4% higher in single-core testing and 12.3% higher in multi-core testing than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Those are results from that specific comparison, not universal scores or a prediction for every phone.
Qualcomm separately claimed generational gains of up to 10% in CPU performance and up to 30% better CPU power efficiency, alongside a 10% increase in GPU clock speed and up to 30% lower GPU power. These are Qualcomm’s own comparisons with the preceding generation, not independent measurements across retail devices. Qualcomm’s platform page describes the claims.

A benchmark score is meaningful only with its test and device attached. Phone cooling, software, power mode, memory configuration and test conditions can change results. The cited figures do not establish a standardized ranking of sustained gaming performance or thermal behavior across phones.
Which phones use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1?
Qualcomm’s August 10, 2022 announcement identifies the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 as phones powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 globally. Check the exact regional SKU before buying: current availability, condition and specifications are separate questions from the processor platform.

How to compare phones with this chip
The processor name alone is not enough to judge two phones. For a useful comparison, check:
Quick Recap
- Benchmark details: Compare the same benchmark version and note the exact phone tested.
- Sustained load and heat: Look for comparable tests over time; a short peak result does not establish long-session performance.
- Battery: Compare capacity and measured runtime, rather than inferring endurance from the 4 nm process or Qualcomm’s efficiency claim.
- Configuration: Check RAM and storage, which can differ between models and regional versions.
- Screen and cameras: The platform supports certain display and imaging features, but each phone’s actual panel and camera system are chosen by its manufacturer.
- Network variant: Confirm the model’s supported bands and connectivity features for your region and carrier.
