Those scores come from different publisher tests—not a controlled, same-phone shootout—so they show a direction, not a guaranteed gap in every handset. Tensor G4 takes a different approach: Google positions it around Pixel software and on-device AI experiences. For a buying decision, compare the phones as well as the chips.
What is the main difference between Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Tensor G4?
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform combines a Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon AI hardware and an X75 5G modem. Google’s Tensor G4 is the processor used in the Pixel 9 family, where Google emphasizes Pixel features and AI models. These are the companies’ descriptions of their platforms, not independent evidence that one chip wins every workload. Qualcomm’s product brief lists a prime CPU core running at up to 3.4 GHz; optional platform capabilities may vary by phone implementation. Google says Tensor G4 was designed with Google DeepMind and optimized for its AI models. Google’s Pixel 9 announcement identifies the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold as Tensor G4 devices.

How do the published benchmark scores compare?
Both comparison publishers report higher aggregate AnTuTu results for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the reported GPU results show a larger separation than the CPU results. The figures below are not directly interchangeable: the publications’ scores differ, and neither set is a controlled test of both chips in otherwise identical phones.
| Test and source | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | Tensor G4 | What the result establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu total, 91mobiles page accessed 2026; test date not stated | 2,186,467 | 1,400,792 | 91mobiles’ reported results; not a universal chipset score. Source |
| AnTuTu total, Beebom, 2024 | 2,063,041 | 1,253,407 | Beebom’s separate results; do not average them with 91mobiles’ scores. Source |
| AnTuTu CPU, 91mobiles page accessed 2026; test date not stated | 478,540 | 468,536 | Scores reported by 91mobiles for its comparison devices. Source |
| AnTuTu GPU, 91mobiles page accessed 2026; test date not stated | 896,091 | 407,988 | Scores reported by 91mobiles; GPU is where its comparison shows the larger gap. Source |
These results support a directional conclusion, not a fixed percentage advantage across all applications. Phone cooling, firmware, benchmark version and test conditions can change results. Geekbench’s browser aggregates user-submitted device results; its Pixel 9 page identifies the phone as a Tensor G4 device, while its mobile benchmark table includes Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones. That evidence is useful for looking at devices, but it is not a matched chipset test.

Which chip is better for graphics and sustained gaming?
The cited comparisons favor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 more strongly in graphics-heavy results. For longer sessions, peak performance is only part of the story: heat and throttling can lower performance after a phone has been working hard for several minutes.
In Beebom’s 2024 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 recorded a best loop score of 5,136 and a lowest loop score of 2,697, with 52.9% stability. Tensor G4 recorded a best loop score of 2,590 and a lowest loop score of 1,525, with 58.9% stability. These are results from Beebom’s test setup, not universal figures for every phone. They illustrate why a higher peak score and stability should be considered separately: Snapdragon’s reported peak and lowest loop scores were higher, while Tensor G4’s reported stability percentage was higher. Beebom’s comparison provides the test figures.

Does Tensor G4 have an AI advantage?
Google makes AI a central part of Tensor G4’s Pixel positioning, including Gemini Nano multimodality and on-device experiences. That does not establish that Tensor G4 is faster or more capable than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on AI workloads in general; the evidence cited here does not provide a controlled comparison of equivalent models and tasks.
Google reports that, compared with the prior Pixel generation, Tensor G4 enables average web browsing that is 20% faster and app launching that is 17% faster. Those are Google’s vendor-reported generational comparisons, not independent Tensor-versus-Snapdragon tests. Google’s AI announcement also calls Tensor G4 its fastest, most powerful chip yet; that statement is a company claim, not a third-party comparative result.

Which phones use Tensor G4, and why does the handset matter?
Google’s August 13, 2024 announcement names the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold as Tensor G4 phones. The same announcement listed historical US launch prices of $799 for Pixel 9, $999 for Pixel 9 Pro and $1,099 for Pixel 9 Pro XL; these are launch prices, not current prices. It lists 12 GB of RAM for Pixel 9 and 16 GB for Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. The Fold has a distinct configuration, so check its specifications rather than assuming it matches those models. Google’s announcement.
For Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a phone maker’s implementation matters too. Cooling, firmware and which optional platform capabilities a manufacturer enables can affect the experience. A processor comparison alone cannot tell you which phone has the better camera, display, battery life, update policy or value. Compare those phone-level factors for the exact models available to you.

How to use these results when choosing a phone
- For demanding graphics and games: the cited results point to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for stronger benchmark performance, particularly GPU-heavy workloads. Check reviews of the exact handset for sustained behavior rather than relying on a peak score alone.
- For Pixel-specific software and AI features: Tensor G4 is the platform Google built into the Pixel 9 family and positions around its AI experiences. Treat that product positioning separately from a claim of universal AI benchmark superiority.
- For everyday responsiveness: benchmark totals do not settle how a phone feels in routine use. Google’s browsing and launch-speed figures compare Pixel generations, so they cannot rank Pixel against Snapdragon phones.
- For an apples-to-apples benchmark: look for the benchmark version, exact phone models, software, test conditions and whether results come from repeated or crowdsourced runs. Do not combine scores from different publishers into a single ranking.
