The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a mid-generation refresh, not a new feature generation. It raises CPU clocks, increases the GPU clock, and moves production from Samsung’s 4 nm process to TSMC’s 4 nm process. Qualcomm advertises performance and efficiency gains, but benchmark results and battery life depend on the phone as well as the chip.
Specifications: what changed?
Both platforms use the same broad CPU layout: one Cortex-X2 prime core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores. AnandTech’s 2022 comparison lists higher clocks for every CPU tier in the Plus model and identifies the change from Samsung 4 nm to TSMC 4 nm. It also lists 6 MB of system-level cache for both.

How much faster is the Plus model?
Qualcomm’s product-page comparisons claim up to 10% better CPU performance, a 10% increase in GPU clock speed, 30% improved CPU power efficiency, and 30% lower GPU power consumption. These are vendor claims, not guaranteed results for every benchmark or handset. Qualcomm also promotes longer video streaming and web browsing; those claims should not be treated as universal phone battery-life measurements.

Independent launch coverage found that results varied by benchmark. AnandTech reported somewhat higher Geekbench results in Qualcomm’s figures but did not find a meaningful PCMark gain in the material it reviewed. GPU outcomes also varied, and a short peak result does not establish how well a phone sustains performance after it heats up. See AnandTech’s analysis of the launch benchmarks.
There is no single percentage that describes how much faster every Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone is. A useful benchmark comparison names the phone, benchmark and version, software build, and whether the run measures a short peak or sustained performance. Without those details, a score is not a reliable prediction of what another handset will do.

Why two phones with the same chip can perform differently
A smartphone’s results reflect its cooling system, firmware, and power limits as well as its SoC. These factors are especially important in long gaming sessions: a phone may reach a high score briefly, then reduce performance as heat builds. Battery life likewise depends on the whole handset and how it is used, so chip-level efficiency claims cannot settle which phone lasts longer.
When comparing actual phones, check the details that the chip name cannot answer:

- Peak performance: Compare results from the same benchmark and version, and note the phone and software build.
- Sustained gaming: Look for tests that identify the game or stress test, duration, and thermal behavior—not just a brief peak score.
- Battery: Use measurements for the specific phone and test conditions rather than assuming Qualcomm’s efficiency figures translate directly into a particular runtime.
- Device configuration: Verify the handset’s modem bands, memory, camera sensors, charging, and software support. Shared platform capabilities do not mean every phone implements them the same way.
Which one should you choose?
If two phones are otherwise comparable, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has the stronger specification sheet for CPU clocks and is built on the process change Qualcomm associated with improved efficiency. That makes it the more promising platform on paper, but it does not prove that every 8+ Gen 1 phone will outperform every 8 Gen 1 phone in sustained gaming or battery life. Judge the specific handset and its measured results.
For a real-device example, Qualcomm announced that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powered Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 devices. That confirms a commercial use of the platform; it is not a controlled performance comparison with a particular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone. See Qualcomm’s Galaxy Z series announcement.
