Snapdragon 8 Elite phones score substantially higher than Tensor G4 Pixel phones in the cited CPU benchmarks. But those results compare complete phones and specific test runs, not the chips in identical laboratory conditions. The practical choice is between a platform built into many Android flagships and Google’s Pixel-focused chip, alongside the software, features, and support of each phone.
How the two platforms differ
Snapdragon 8 Elite
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite specifications list a 64-bit Qualcomm Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU, and Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF. Qualcomm lists CPU speeds up to 4.47 GHz and says a 4.32 GHz version is also available. The maximum depends on the platform version and device maker; phones using the same platform may differ in clock settings, cooling, and resulting performance.

At launch in October 2024, Qualcomm said the platform introduced its second-generation Oryon CPU. The performance gains in the company’s launch announcement compare it with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, not Tensor G4, so they do not establish a direct advantage over Google’s chip.
Google Tensor G4
Google identifies the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL as Tensor G4 phones. Google says the chip was designed with Google DeepMind and optimized for its AI models, and describes everyday uses such as opening apps and browsing the web. Those statements explain Google’s product priorities; they are not independent head-to-head measurements of Tensor G4 against Snapdragon 8 Elite.

What the CPU benchmarks show
Two comparisons point in the same direction, but they are phone-level results rather than controlled tests of bare chips.
| Source and device | Chip identified | Geekbench CPU score |
|---|---|---|
| Tom’s Guide, Samsung Galaxy S25 | Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy | 2,916 single-core; 9,886 multicore |
| Tom’s Guide, Google Pixel 9 | Tensor G4 | 1,758 single-core; 4,594 multicore |
| Geekbench live Android chart, Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra | Snapdragon 8 Elite | 2,475 single-core; 8,893 multicore |
| Geekbench live Android chart, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL | Tensor G4 | 1,548 single-core; 3,899 multicore |
The first two rows are the device results reported in Tom’s Guide’s Galaxy S25 versus Pixel 9 comparison. The S25 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy variant. These scores show a sizable CPU benchmark lead for that tested Samsung phone, but they do not show that every Snapdragon 8 Elite handset will achieve the same result or isolate the chip from cooling, firmware, memory, and software.
The other results are entries shown on Geekbench’s live Android chart, which uses device-submitted results. They offer broader context, not a matched review run; submissions accrue over time and the displayed values can change. The gap in these entries also favors the cited Snapdragon phone, but it should not be treated as a fixed score difference between all devices using these chips.

What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
CPU performance
The cited Geekbench comparisons consistently show higher single-core and multicore scores for the tested Snapdragon 8 Elite phones than for the tested Tensor G4 Pixels. If raw CPU benchmark performance is your priority, the evidence here favors Snapdragon 8 Elite. Scores remain device- and test-specific.
Graphics, gaming, heat, and power
The cited material does not provide matched measurements of gaming frame rates, sustained performance, thermal behavior, or power use for these chips. A CPU score cannot answer how well a particular phone handles a long gaming session, how hot it gets, or how long its battery lasts under comparable use.
AI performance
Google’s stated focus on optimizing Tensor G4 for its AI models describes the platform’s design intent. It does not establish that Tensor G4 processes AI workloads faster than Snapdragon 8 Elite. No matched on-device AI throughput results are available in the cited evidence.

Connectivity and phone features
Qualcomm lists the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF as part of the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, while Google’s Pixel pages describe the Pixel phones and their features. These descriptions do not provide a like-for-like connectivity test between specific phones. Reception, supported bands, software features, and other details should be checked for the exact models and region you are considering.

Which phone should you choose?
- Prioritize raw CPU benchmark performance: the cited phone tests favor Snapdragon 8 Elite, including the Galaxy S25’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy variant.
- Prioritize the Pixel experience: consider a Pixel 9-series phone if Google’s software and integration of its AI models suit your needs. The evidence here does not establish superior Tensor G4 AI throughput.
- Care about sustained gaming, heat, or battery life: seek results for the exact phone models and workloads you care about. The CPU scores above do not settle those questions.
- Keep long-term support in view: Google says Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL receive seven years of updates from their first availability on the US Google Store, according to its Pixel hardware specifications and support documentation. This is a phone support policy, not a Tensor G4 capability.
Ultimately, the chip comparison is one input to a phone decision. The cited results make Snapdragon 8 Elite the stronger choice on CPU benchmarks, while the best overall phone depends on the particular model’s software, features, connectivity, thermals, and support.
