The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s newer flagship platform, but the available benchmark figures are not a controlled, same-phone comparison. 91mobiles reports a higher AnTuTu score for an Elite Gen 5 test device than for a Gen 2 device; the result is useful as an indication, not a guarantee of how much faster any two phones will feel. For a buying decision, compare the actual phones’ price, cooling, battery behavior, cameras and software support alongside their chips.

The clock figures and process-node entry are manufacturer specifications, not a complete measure of speed. A phone’s cooling system, power limits, memory, software and workload all influence performance, particularly when a task runs for more than a brief benchmark burst.

What the benchmark results say—and what they do not
AnTuTu: a reported lead in one tested comparison
91mobiles reports 4,033,382 for its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 test and 1,611,015 for its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 test. AnTuTu combines CPU, GPU, memory and I/O results, so these scores do not isolate processor speed or show performance in a particular app. The report is a device-based comparison; the available information does not establish a controlled test using the same phone, cooling, software and conditions. Treat the difference as indicative rather than a universal platform-to-platform multiplier.

Geekbench 6: useful context, not a Gen 2 head-to-head
Tom’s Guide reports 3,832 single-core and 12,208 multi-core for the Elite Gen 5 on a Qualcomm-supplied reference device with 24 GB of memory. That result describes the tested reference hardware and configuration. It is not a same-conditions comparison against a Gen 2 phone, and it should not be read as a score every retail handset will reproduce.

Qualcomm’s improvements are not a direct Gen 2 comparison
Qualcomm’s 2025 figures—20% CPU performance, 35% CPU power efficiency, 23% GPU performance and 20% GPU power efficiency—are its stated generation-over-generation comparisons for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. They do not establish those exact gains over Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Manufacturer claims and third-party handset benchmark results answer different questions and should not be combined as if they shared one test method.
Which chip makes more sense for a phone?
Choose an Elite Gen 5 phone when newer flagship capability is the priority
The Elite Gen 5 is the newer platform and is built around Qualcomm’s 3rd Gen Oryon CPU. Qualcomm identifies the Galaxy S26 series as using a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy variant. Check the exact model and region before buying: a platform variant or regional configuration should not be assumed to match every handset sold under the same family name.

A newer chip is most compelling when the particular phone also offers the sustained performance, battery life, camera implementation and software support you want. The benchmark evidence alone does not establish which handset is the better value.
Keep a Gen 2 phone in consideration when the handset deal is stronger
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 remains a relevant basis for comparing older flagship phones, but the supplied evidence does not determine current prices, remaining update support or battery condition for any specific model. Compare the complete devices rather than paying a premium based only on the chipset name. A discounted Gen 2 phone may be a better fit if its overall condition and support window suit you; a chip comparison cannot settle those handset-specific questions.

How to compare the actual phones before buying
- Confirm the exact chipset and regional model. Check the manufacturer’s specification page for the precise model number, region and platform variant, especially for “for Galaxy” versions.
- Compare sustained-load behavior. Look for tests of the specific phone, not just the chipset. Cooling design and power limits can affect longer gaming, recording or intensive workloads.
- Check battery and camera implementation. Battery capacity and condition, display power use, image sensors and camera software are handset-level factors; the chipset name does not specify the complete experience.
- Verify software support and total price. Compare the phone’s remaining update support, storage configuration, warranty and price. Those details are not established by the benchmark scores.
- Use benchmarks as one input. Prefer comparisons that identify the tested devices and conditions, and avoid treating a single score as a promise of everyday speed or battery life.
Bottom line
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the newer flagship platform, and 91mobiles’ reported AnTuTu results show a substantial score difference in its tested devices. But those figures are not a controlled, same-handset comparison, while Qualcomm’s published improvement percentages are not direct Gen 2 claims. Choose between phones by weighing the chip alongside tested sustained performance, price, battery, cameras and software support.
