Its listed peak CPU clock also rises from 2.5 GHz to 2.7 GHz. Both are 4 nm platforms, and Qualcomm’s published comparison does not establish a corresponding battery-life gain or an independent real-phone benchmark advantage.
Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 vs. Gen 3: key differences
| Area | Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 | Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 | What the comparison means |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU performance | Qualcomm claims a 7% improvement over Gen 3 | Qualcomm lists a peak CPU clock of up to 2.5 GHz | The 7% figure is Qualcomm’s manufacturer comparison, not an independently replicated benchmark. Qualcomm’s Gen 4 product page |
| Peak CPU clock | Up to 2.7 GHz | Up to 2.5 GHz | A higher peak clock does not establish faster sustained performance. Qualcomm’s Gen 3 product page |
| GPU | Qualcomm claims 7% faster graphics rendering than Gen 3 | Qualcomm’s separate 40% GPU claim was against Gen 3’s own predecessor | The Gen 3 launch percentage has a different baseline; it is not a Gen 4-versus-Gen 3 result. Qualcomm’s August 2024 Gen 3 announcement |
| Manufacturing process | 4 nm | 4 nm | The cited specifications show no process-node change. Qualcomm’s Gen 4 product brief |
| Gaming and efficiency features | Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 uses real-time thermal feedback, according to Qualcomm | Gen 3 launch materials claimed 12% overall power savings against its own predecessor | Neither statement establishes a direct Gen 4-versus-Gen 3 battery-life result. Gen 4 product page; Gen 3 announcement |
How much faster is the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4?
Qualcomm’s current Gen 4 product page states that CPU performance and graphics rendering each improve by 7% over the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. Treat both figures as Qualcomm’s claims, not as universal gains that every phone or workload will show. The listed maximum CPU clock rises by 0.2 GHz, from up to 2.5 GHz to up to 2.7 GHz, but that specification alone does not show how long a phone can sustain peak speeds.

The percentages announced when the Gen 3 launched in 2024 answer a different comparison. Qualcomm then claimed nearly 20% better CPU performance, up to 40% GPU acceleration, over 30% better AI performance, and 12% overall power savings against the earlier platform used as that announcement’s baseline. Those figures cannot be used to calculate Gen 3’s performance relative to Gen 4.
Does Gen 4 improve battery life or efficiency?
Qualcomm describes Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 as using real-time thermal feedback during intensifying gaming workloads to improve efficiency and help avoid throttling. That is a feature description and statement of intent; it is not a quantified battery-life comparison with Gen 3. The cited material does not establish that a Gen 4 phone lasts longer on a charge.

Battery life depends on the complete phone and how it is used. A useful device-to-device comparison would need comparable software and power settings, workload, screen brightness, temperature conditions, and a clearly described measurement method. Without those controls, chipset specifications alone cannot establish a handset battery advantage.

Gen 4’s documented advantages over Gen 3 are modest on paper: Qualcomm’s stated 7% CPU and GPU improvements, a higher listed peak CPU clock, and a gaming feature focused on thermal feedback. Both are listed as 4 nm. Whether those differences matter in everyday use depends on how each manufacturer builds and configures its phone.
Compare the exact handset and regional model, not just the processor name. Check its price, memory and storage configuration, cooling design, battery capacity, display, software support, camera hardware, and independent sustained-load results where available. Qualcomm cautions in its Gen 4 product brief: “Results will vary, depending on OEM implementation and other factors.”
