The 7 Gen 3 is newer, but newer does not automatically mean faster: Qualcomm describes it as a platform designed to balance performance and power efficiency, not as a universal upgrade over the 7+ Gen 2.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 vs Snapdragon 7 Gen 3: key differences
Both are eight-core mobile platforms. The comparison data lists a higher peak CPU frequency and higher results for the 7+ Gen 2, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 brief identifies that newer platform as a 4 nm chip, part number SM7550-AB.

Which processor is faster?
In the reported Geekbench 6 comparison, the 7+ Gen 2 scores 1,654 single-core and 4,217 multi-core, versus 1,131 and 3,111 for the 7 Gen 3. These are comparison-site results, not guaranteed scores for every handset. CPU-Monkey reports different Geekbench 6 averages: 1,496 and 4,189 for the 7+ Gen 2, and 1,132 and 3,065 for the 7 Gen 3. The variation is a reminder that aggregated scores depend on the devices and methods represented.
NanoReview also reports higher AnTuTu 11 results for the 7+ Gen 2: 1,317,007 across 52 tests, compared with 1,027,925 across 175 tests for the 7 Gen 3. Because those sample counts differ, the figures should be read as reported aggregates rather than results from a matched laboratory test.

Which chip is better for gaming?
The cited 3DMark results favor the 7+ Gen 2: 614 versus 490 in Steel Nomad Light, and 1,956 versus 1,596 in Wild Life Extreme. That gives it the stronger showing in these graphics tests. CPU-Monkey lists a higher GPU frequency for the 7 Gen 3, but clock speed by itself does not predict game performance or sustained frame rates.
In an actual phone, gaming also depends on cooling, display resolution, game version, and how much power the device can sustain. The benchmark scores help compare the chips, but they cannot guarantee how a particular handset will perform during a long gaming session.

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in November 2023 and described it as designed to balance performance and power efficiency. The launch announcement claims up to 60% improved AI performance per watt; that is Qualcomm’s platform claim, not independent proof that every 7 Gen 3 phone lasts longer than every phone with a 7+ Gen 2. Qualcomm’s launch announcement
Battery life is a property of the complete phone, not the chipset alone. Battery capacity, screen, software, radio use, cooling, and device tuning can all affect how long a handset runs between charges. The shared 4 nm process labels do not settle that comparison.
What the benchmark numbers can—and cannot—tell you
- They support a relative reading, not a phone-specific promise. The reported CPU and 3DMark comparisons favor the 7+ Gen 2, but phone implementation and testing conditions can change the result.
- Aggregated results vary by source. NanoReview and CPU-Monkey report different Geekbench averages, so avoid treating any single score as a universal capability rating.
- Numbers belong to a benchmark version. Geekbench 6, AnTuTu 11, and the named 3DMark tests are distinct measures; a score in one cannot be directly substituted for another.
- Specifications are not outcomes. A higher GPU clock or a smaller process label does not, by itself, establish better gaming performance or longer battery life.
Which phone should you buy?
Compare the actual phone models available to you rather than choosing by chip name alone. NanoReview names the Xiaomi Poco F5 as a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 phone; that example does not establish current retail availability or price. NanoReview comparison
Before deciding, check the following for both phones:
- Current local price and whether the handset is new, refurbished, or used.
- Software-update support and the manufacturer’s update policy.
- Sustained performance and thermal behavior in the specific model.
- RAM and storage configuration.
- Battery capacity, real-world endurance, and charging.
- Display and camera quality.
- Network-band compatibility for your region.
If two phones are otherwise similar in price and features, the available benchmark comparisons make the 7+ Gen 2 the stronger pick for CPU performance and the cited graphics tests. A 7 Gen 3 phone may still be the better purchase if its overall hardware, support, price, or efficiency in that particular handset suits you better.
