The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is the newer platform, but benchmark aggregates do not show it winning every category. NanoReview’s AnTuTu 11 results are nearly even, its Geekbench 6 CPU averages favor the older Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, and its Steel Nomad Light score favors Gen 4. These are pooled results from different phones—not a controlled test of otherwise identical devices—so the phone’s cooling, software, configuration, and price matter as much as the chip label.
At a glance: which Snapdragon is newer?
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 was announced in May 2025; Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 arrived in March 2023. Gen 4 is therefore newer, but the “Plus” in the older chip’s name does not establish that it will outperform Gen 4 in every task. Qualcomm describes improvements for each platform against its predecessor, while independent comparison aggregates show different leaders depending on the benchmark.

| Benchmark | Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 | Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 | What the displayed results indicate |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu 11 | 1,317,007 (52 tests) | 1,329,936 (38 tests) | Close overall totals; Gen 4 is about 1% higher in this aggregate. |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 1,654 (51 tests) | 1,270 (17 tests) | The displayed aggregate favors 7+ Gen 2 for single-core CPU performance. |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 4,217 (51 tests) | 4,106 (17 tests) | The displayed aggregate also favors 7+ Gen 2 for multi-core CPU performance. |
| 3DMark Steel Nomad Light | 614; 98% stability listed | 667; 98% stability listed | Gen 4 scores higher in this graphics test. This result does not establish game frame rates across titles or sustained thermal conditions. |
| Geekbench 6 Compute | 4,189 | 6,746 | Gen 4 scores higher in this GPU-compute result; it is not a general CPU score or a direct gaming frame-rate measurement. |
These results do not support a single winner for every workload. AnTuTu 11 is nearly tied, Geekbench 6 CPU averages favor the older chip, and the listed graphics-focused and compute results favor Gen 4. The sample sizes are unequal, and the comparison page does not make these figures a controlled chip-to-chip test.
Other comparison databases report different values. For example, 91mobiles’ comparison page reports an AnTuTu result of 1,457,989 for a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 example. That figure is not directly interchangeable with NanoReview’s aggregate. Do not average the sites together or interpret one score as a universal result for every phone.

What Qualcomm’s performance claims mean
Qualcomm’s launch materials make claims against each platform’s stated predecessor context; they are vendor comparisons, not direct measurements of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 against Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.
- For Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, Qualcomm advertised over 50% higher CPU performance, 2x GPU performance, and up to 13% better system power efficiency in its March 2023 launch material. Those figures describe Qualcomm’s stated comparison context at that launch, not a measured advantage over Gen 4.
- For Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, Qualcomm claims 27% higher CPU performance, 30% faster GPU graphics rendering, and 65% improved AI performance over its predecessor. These are Qualcomm’s May 2025 claims, not independent benchmark findings in this comparison.
Which chip should you choose?
For everyday responsiveness and CPU-heavy tasks
The Geekbench 6 aggregates listed above favor the 7+ Gen 2 in both single-core and multi-core results, but their samples differ substantially. Treat that as a reason to compare reviews of the actual phones—not proof that every 7+ Gen 2 handset will feel faster. The available figures do not establish a controlled comparison of sustained performance.

For graphics and gaming
Gen 4 leads in the listed Steel Nomad Light and Geekbench 6 Compute results. Neither score guarantees higher frame rates in a particular game: game workload, graphics settings, software, cooling, and sustained power all affect the result. Look for testing of the specific phone and game if gaming performance is decisive.
For connectivity, camera features, and platform extras
Qualcomm highlights Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, XPAN audio, selected Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, and AI-enabled camera processing for Gen 4. For 7+ Gen 2, its product page lists an X62 5G modem, an 18-bit Spectra ISP, and Quick Charge 5 support. These platform descriptions are not a substitute for checking the features a manufacturer actually enabled in a specific handset.

For a purchase decision
Compare complete phone models rather than buying by chipset name alone. The 91mobiles comparison lists POCO F5, Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Turbo, and realme GT Neo 5 SE examples for Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, and OPPO Reno16 5G and Motorola Edge 70 examples for Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This is not an exhaustive global catalog. Confirm the regional model and chipset, memory and storage configuration, software, cooling, support policy, current stock, and price before choosing.
