Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is the newer chip, with a higher maximum CPU clock and higher scores in most of the published comparisons available here. But benchmark results do not agree on every test, and they compare chip-associated devices rather than controlling for every phone difference. Use the figures as a broad indication—not a guarantee of how a particular handset will perform.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 vs 6 Gen 1: key specifications
Qualcomm lists both platforms as 4 nm and associates each with Quick Charge 4+. The Gen 3 listing gives a maximum CPU clock of 2.4 GHz and describes a Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System; the Gen 1 listing gives up to 2.2 GHz and names the Snapdragon X62 modem. Qualcomm’s 6 Series lineup provides these platform-level details.

CPU configuration and GPU clock details come from third-party specification tables, not Qualcomm’s lineup listing. The published GPU clocks do not establish that every phone sustains those speeds under load; handset cooling and software can affect sustained performance.

On its Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 product page, Qualcomm claims improvements over Gen 1 of up to 10% for CPU performance, over 30% for GPU performance, and over 20% for AI performance. These are vendor claims; the page does not supply an independent test basis alongside the percentages. They should not be treated as guaranteed gains in every phone or workload.

Published benchmark results
The two publishers below show a general Gen 3 advantage in AnTuTu and single-core results, but their figures differ. Their Geekbench multi-core results also disagree about which chip leads.
| Publisher and test | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 |
|---|---|---|
| NanoReview AnTuTu 11 aggregate | 840,353 (123 tests) | 737,054 (70 tests) |
| NanoReview Geekbench 6 single-core aggregate | 1,013 | 930 |
| NanoReview Geekbench 6 multi-core aggregate | 3,000 | 2,700 |
| 91mobiles AnTuTu total | 868,311 | 846,599 |
| 91mobiles Geekbench single-core | 1,023 | 948 |
| 91mobiles Geekbench multi-core | 2,690 | 2,764 |
NanoReview reports 24 versus 20 CPU test samples for its Gen 3 and Gen 1 Geekbench 6 aggregates. The values are publisher-reported comparisons accessed in 2026, not results from one controlled test of two otherwise identical phones. 91mobiles says its AnTuTu figures come from devices powered by the chips and that its chip-page score is the highest recorded by any device running that chip. That approach makes the score particularly unsuitable as a like-for-like handset comparison.
Do not combine scores from different publishers into a single ranking. The displayed AnTuTu values and single-core results favor Gen 3 in both sets, while 91mobiles’ multi-core result favors Gen 1 and NanoReview’s favors Gen 3. Benchmark version, tested devices, and sample sets matter; scores alone do not establish sustained speed, heat, or battery life.
Connectivity: what the chip specification does and does not tell you
Both platforms are associated with 5G, but the modem descriptions differ. Qualcomm says the Gen 3 platform can reach peak download speeds of 2.9 Gbps and supports Wi-Fi 6/6E. Its Gen 1 product page describes the X62 modem’s mmWave and Sub-6 coverage and a FastConnect 6700 Wi-Fi 6E system.
These are platform capabilities, not promises about a phone’s actual network performance or configuration. Supported bands, Wi-Fi features, carrier certification, and real-world speeds depend on the exact handset and market. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the precise regional model you are considering.
How to choose between phones using these chips
A newer SoC can be a useful tie-breaker, but it is not a complete phone recommendation. Before choosing, compare the exact devices and regional variants across these factors:
- Exact chip and SKU: Confirm the processor in the specific model sold in your country; do not assume every regional version is identical.
- Memory and storage: Compare RAM and storage capacity alongside the chip, since these affect the overall device configuration.
- Cooling and sustained performance: Look for comparable long-duration tests if demanding games or extended workloads matter. Short benchmark scores do not establish how well a phone holds performance over time.
- Display, battery, and charging: These affect everyday use independently of the processor. A chipset’s charging support does not guarantee a particular phone’s charging speed.
- Cameras and software: Compare camera hardware, image processing, operating-system support, and security-update commitments for the handsets themselves.
- Local price: Compare current prices for the exact variants available to you; chip benchmarks do not determine value.
Samsung Galaxy A36 5G appears among phones associated with the compared SoCs on the cited benchmark-phone listing, but that listing does not establish current availability or regional chipset configuration. Check the phone maker’s local specifications before treating it as an example of either chip in your market.
