Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is the more capable platform on paper: Qualcomm lists 5G, LPDDR5 memory support and CPU speeds up to 2.3 GHz, while MediaTek lists Helio G85 with 4G, LPDDR4x and a CPU topping out at 2 GHz. Available device-derived benchmarks also favor Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, but they are not results from equivalent phones tested under controlled conditions.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 vs Helio G85: key specifications

Specification Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 MediaTek Helio G85
Process 4 nm, according to Qualcomm not stated on MediaTek’s Helio G85 specifications page
CPU Speeds up to 2.3 GHz; Qualcomm’s captured product specifications do not identify the CPU core architecture 2 × Cortex-A75 up to 2 GHz; 6 × Cortex-A55 up to 1.8 GHz, according to MediaTek
GPU Qualcomm Adreno GPU; the product page does not specify a model in the captured specifications Mali-G52 MC2, according to MediaTek
Memory support LPDDR5 LPDDR4x
Storage support not stated on Qualcomm’s product page eMMC 5.1
Mobile network support 5G 4G technologies

These are chip-platform specifications, not a guarantee that every phone using a chip includes the same memory capacity, storage configuration, or network bands. A handset maker chooses how to implement the platform. Qualcomm describes the Adreno GPU as enhancing graphics for gaming and streaming; that is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independent gaming-performance measurement.

Which processor performs better in benchmarks?

Published device-tested results favor Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 in both Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu in the comparisons available. The figures below are reported by 91mobiles, which says its results come from real-world testing of phones powered by each chip. It describes the AnTuTu scores as the highest recorded among its tested devices.

Benchmark result reported by 91mobiles Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 Helio G85
Geekbench 6 single-core 955 432
Geekbench 6 multi-core 2,333 1,463
AnTuTu score 622,466 271,962

These are results from tested devices, not matched-handset scores or universal values for every phone with either processor. The phones, cooling systems, firmware, power settings and test conditions can all affect the result, so use the numbers as an indication rather than a promise of what a particular handset will score.

Why you may see different benchmark numbers

NanoReview’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 page reports 952 single-core and 2,328 multi-core in Geekbench 6, and 593,849 in AnTuTu 11. NanoReview indicates fewer than three Geekbench samples. Its AnTuTu 11 result should not be directly compared with an AnTuTu 10 result, and its figures should not be mixed with 91mobiles’ aggregates as if they came from one test set.

Benchmark versions, participating phones and sample counts differ. When comparing numbers from a review or database, check the benchmark version, whether the result is single-core or multi-core, the handset model, and whether the figure is a sample, an average or the highest tested result.

What the specifications mean for choosing a phone

5G versus 4G

Choose based on the network you need and the specific phone’s supported bands and local carrier compatibility. Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 includes 5G platform support; MediaTek lists Helio G85 with 4G technologies. The chip alone does not establish whether a particular model supports every 5G or 4G band used in your country.

Memory and storage

Snapdragon 4 Gen 4’s listed LPDDR5 support is a newer memory generation than the LPDDR4x listed for Helio G85. MediaTek also specifies eMMC 5.1 storage for Helio G85, but Qualcomm’s cited platform page does not state a corresponding storage specification. Phone responsiveness and app-loading experience still depend on the complete device configuration, not just the supported memory type.

Gaming, heat and battery life

The specifications and benchmark figures here do not establish which chip delivers better sustained frame rates, runs cooler or uses less power in equivalent phones. Those outcomes depend on the handset’s cooling, firmware, power management and workload. To judge a gaming or battery-life claim, look for tests on the exact phone model under clearly described conditions rather than inferring results from process size or a short benchmark run.

Verdict

On published platform features, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is the stronger choice if you want 5G support and LPDDR5, and its available device-derived benchmark results are higher. Helio G85 remains a 4G platform with a clearly specified eight-core CPU, Mali-G52 MC2 graphics, LPDDR4x memory and eMMC 5.1 storage. For a real purchase decision, compare the exact phones and their local network support; do not treat cross-device benchmark scores as a controlled head-to-head result.
