Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 vs Snapdragon 6 Gen 1: Which Chip Performs Better?

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 leads the cited AnTuTu device comparison, but phone design and testing conditions matter. Compare the chip specifications and what they mean when choosing a handset.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 leads in the available AnTuTu comparison: 91mobiles reports 846,599 for a tested phone using it, versus 478,134 for a tested Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 phone. Those are device results, not universal scores for the processors. Both platforms use a 4 nm process, but differ in their modem families, positioning and listed CPU clocks. For a buying decision, compare the exact phones—not just their chips.

Specifications at a glance

Specification Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Snapdragon 6 Gen 1
Process 4 nm, according to Qualcomm 4 nm, according to Qualcomm
Maximum listed CPU clock Up to 2.3 GHz; Qualcomm also notes a 2.2 GHz version Up to 2.2 GHz
5G modem Snapdragon X61 Snapdragon X62
Qualcomm’s stated peak download speed Up to 2.5 Gbps Not stated on the cited product page
Series positioning Entry tier (Snapdragon 4 Series) Mid-tier (Snapdragon 6 Series)

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2’s higher listed maximum clock does not make it the faster processor overall. Clock speed is only one specification; it does not describe the whole CPU or GPU, and phone design affects the performance a user gets. Qualcomm says actual results may vary depending on device design.

Which one is faster in benchmarks?

In the figures reported by 91mobiles, a tested Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 phone scored 846,599 in AnTuTu, while a tested Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 phone scored 478,134. This comparison favors the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in those tested devices.

The report does not identify the phone models, AnTuTu version or testing conditions. The scores therefore cannot establish a universal chip-to-chip result, a guaranteed difference in everyday use, or what a particular phone will score. Memory configuration, cooling, software and benchmark setup can all influence a device result. A controlled comparison would use named phones, the same benchmark version and conditions, and ideally multiple samples for each chipset.

How to interpret Qualcomm’s performance claims

Qualcomm describes the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2’s Kryo CPU as improving by up to 10% over the previous generation. For Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, Qualcomm advertises up to 35% CPU and 30% GPU improvement over its previous generation. These percentages use each platform’s own predecessor as the baseline; they are not a direct comparison between Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. They are vendor claims, not results from the 91mobiles device comparison.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 launch material also reported up to 15% CPU and 10% GPU improvement versus the previous generation. Because that is a separate, earlier Qualcomm statement, it should not be blended with the current product-page figures or treated as a head-to-head result.

Which processor should guide your phone choice?

If performance is the priority, the cited AnTuTu sample points toward phones with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. Treat that as a useful directional clue, not a guarantee: a well-implemented phone with one chip can behave differently from another phone with the same chip, and the available scores do not establish performance for any particular handset.

Verdict

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the stronger choice in the available device-tested AnTuTu comparison, while Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 has a higher listed maximum CPU clock and an X61 modem with a stated peak download speed of up to 2.5 Gbps. Neither detail alone determines which phone is the better buy. Compare the complete handset and look for testing of the exact model you plan to purchase.
