How to play your original Switch games on Switch 2
Physical games
Insert the original Nintendo Switch game card into the Switch 2. The game must be compatible; some titles may not launch or may have partial functionality issues because the systems use different hardware. Check Nintendo’s compatibility list for the specific title before relying on it.

Link the Nintendo Account associated with your original Switch purchases to Switch 2, then download the games you own. Compatibility exceptions apply to digital games too. Nintendo says some titles may take longer to become playable, and future testing or updates may change compatibility status. Can you use original Switch controllers and accessories?
Game compatibility and accessory compatibility are separate questions: a game may work while a particular controller or accessory does not.

Games that rely on original Joy-Con features
Some games need features of the original Joy-Con or require the console to fit into an accessory. Nintendo identifies Ring Fit Adventure and 1-2-Switch as examples that require original Switch Joy-Con features. It also notes that the Switch 2 console cannot fit in several Toy-Con pieces. What to check before switching or buying a game
- Look up the exact game in Nintendo’s current compatibility information; do not assume that all original Switch games work.
- If you own the digital version, make sure you can use the Nintendo Account tied to the purchase.
- If a game needs original Joy-Con or a specific accessory, confirm that its required features and physical setup will work with Switch 2.
