Snap Score Not Working on Snapchat? Why It’s Stuck and How to Fix It

A frozen Snapscore can be a delayed display, failed Snap, app issue, or account or service problem. Diagnose the symptom and try Snapchat’s safest fixes first.

A Snapscore that appears frozen is usually a delayed or stale display, an unsuccessful Snap, an app or connection problem, or a Snapchat-side issue—not proof that your score has been reset. Snapchat does not publish its exact scoring formula or promise an update interval. First check whether a photo or video Snap actually sent, then work through the low-risk fixes below.

Identify which Snapscore problem you have

  • Your own score is not increasing: Check that a photo or video Snap sent successfully; a text Chat is not the same thing as a Snap.
  • A friend’s score looks unchanged: The number on your screen may be delayed, and it cannot show exactly what that person has done.
  • Your score changes only later: Snapchat publishes no fixed refresh interval, so a delay alone does not establish that anything is broken.
  • The score is missing: Check whether you are viewing the profile’s score area and whether other profile details load. A missing display is different from a score that has not increased.
  • Snapchat+ score-change information is missing: This is separate from your own score display; check the Snapchat+ feature requirements below.
  • Snaps will not send or load, or other features fail too: Resolve the delivery, connection, or broader app problem before using score changes as a test.

What affects Snapscore—and what Snapchat does not say

Snapchat says a Snapscore combines Snaps sent, Snaps received, Stories posted, and “a couple other factors.” It describes the calculation as a “super-secret” equation and displays the score under a user’s name on the Profile screen. Snapchat also says a Snapscore cannot be lowered or reset. See Snapchat’s Snapscore explanation.

The exact points assigned to each activity are not published. Snapchat does not confirm a point-per-Snap rate, a specific value for a Story, or a guaranteed real-time refresh schedule. A text Chat is not the same as sending a photo or video Snap; Snapchat’s public explanation does not identify ordinary Chats, browsing, or viewing Stories as guaranteed score increases. It also does not establish exactly how every type of Snap, replay, or group interaction affects the score. Do not use a displayed number to infer another person’s exact activity.

How to fix a Snapscore that is not updating

  1. Confirm a qualifying activity and successful delivery. Send or receive a photo or video Snap, not just a text Chat. Check that it has actually sent; if it is pending or failing to load, troubleshoot delivery first. Avoid sending large numbers of Snaps just to force a refresh.
  2. Switch networks. Try Wi‑Fi instead of cellular data, or cellular data instead of Wi‑Fi, and use a stable connection. Snapchat recommends switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data when a feature or Snap is not working (app troubleshooting).
  3. Update Snapchat. Install the version available for your device through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Amazon Appstore where applicable. The available version can vary by store, device, and region; Snapchat’s troubleshooting guidance recommends updating.
  4. Force-close and reopen the app. Use your phone’s app switcher to close Snapchat fully, then launch it again. Simply returning to the home screen may leave the app running.
  5. Restart your phone. Snapchat’s guidance for Snaps that will not send or load recommends turning the device off for one full minute before turning it back on (Snap troubleshooting).
  6. Clear Snapchat’s in-app cache. Menu names can vary by app version. Snapchat documents these paths in its Snaps troubleshooting instructions:
    • iPhone: Open Snapchat, go to My Account, tap the gear icon for Settings, scroll to Clear Data, tap Clear Cache, then confirm with Clear.
    • Android: Open Snapchat, go to My Account, tap the gear icon, scroll to Clear Cache, then confirm with Continue.

Clearing the in-app cache is not the same as deleting your account or Memories.

  7. Log out and back in only if you can safely regain access. Before logging out, make sure you know your password and can access the account’s recovery email or phone number. Then log out, close Snapchat, reopen it, and log back in. Snapchat includes this step in some persistent app troubleshooting (Snapchat support).
  8. Compare the scope of the problem. As a troubleshooting inference, if one friend’s score alone looks unchanged, the issue may be specific to that profile or its display. If your own score is unchanged across multiple sessions or devices, or several Snapchat features are failing, an account-side or service issue is more plausible than a single-device cache problem. This comparison is a clue, not a confirmed Snapchat diagnostic rule.
  9. Check Snapchat’s status page. Look for an active incident or degradation, then retry later if one is reported. The public status page may not list every feature-level or Snapscore-specific defect.
  10. Report a persistent bug. Use the in-app route in the next section rather than a third-party repair or “booster” service.

If Snaps themselves are not sending or loading

Fix delivery before judging the score: a Snap that is stuck or fails to load may not have registered as a completed send or receipt. Follow Snapchat’s steps for Snaps that will not send or load, including checking the connection, updating the app, clearing its cache, and restarting the device. Recheck your profile after a Snap sends successfully; Snapchat does not specify how quickly the number should reflect it.

If you cannot log in or see an account restriction

Stop treating this as an ordinary score-display issue if Snapchat blocks sign-in or shows a lock warning. Snapchat documents temporary locks, permanent locks, and device bans; its guidance also identifies unauthorized third-party apps, plugins, tweaks, suspicious activity, and some policy violations as possible restriction causes. Follow the official locked-account instructions. A temporary-lock waiting period of 48 hours applies only to some temporary account-access situations, not to a general Snapscore delay. Where an appeal is available, use Snapchat’s in-app appeal route; do not pay a third party claiming it can unlock the account.

Does Snapchat+ fix a stuck Snapscore?

No. Snapchat+ is not a repair for a stale display, failed Snap delivery, account restriction, or service-side bug. Its optional Snapscore Multiplier is off by default and must be enabled. Snapchat says it doubles eligible score growth for Snaps sent to or received from another Snapchat+ subscriber; it does not promise that the displayed number refreshes instantly. Check Snapchat’s Multiplier requirements before expecting it to apply.

Report the problem to Snapchat

If Snaps send normally, basic app and connection troubleshooting has not helped, and the score still appears wrong, send a bug report in Snapchat:

  1. Open My Account and tap the gear icon for Settings.
  2. Scroll to Support & Safety. In some app versions, this appears inside App & Privacy.
  3. Open Bugs and Suggestions, choose Report a Bug, and follow the prompts. The menu labels may vary by version; see Snapchat’s app troubleshooting page and support topic hub.

Include your iPhone or Android model, operating-system and Snapchat app versions, username, approximate time the score stopped updating, whether the issue affects your score or a friend’s, whether Snaps send and load, and the steps you have tried. Add a screenshot or recording only if it is safe to share. Snapchat says it cannot respond to every feedback report, though reports help it investigate and fix bugs (support topic hub).
