Install Xender on both phones, allow the iPhone’s Local Network and media permissions, tap Send on the source phone and Receive on the other, then connect by QR code, Wi‑Fi or a phone-created hotspot. Select the files, wait for completion, and use Xender’s save or export control to place them in Photos or Files when necessary.
What Xender can—and cannot—transfer
Xender is a wireless sharing app for iPhone, Android and other devices. Its US App Store listing advertises transfers of photos, videos, music, documents and other files between iOS and other platforms, including Android. The listing currently shows the app as free: Xender on the US App Store.
- iPhone to Android and Android to iPhone
- iPhone to iPhone
- Phone to a PC or Mac
- Selected files rather than a complete phone migration
Xender should not be treated as a replacement for Apple’s Move to iOS, which is designed to move broader categories of Android data while setting up a new iPhone. Contacts, messages, account data and protected app databases are not ordinary files that Xender can reliably migrate.
Before you start
- Install Xender on both phones from their official app stores or distribution channels.
- Charge both devices, keep them close together and make sure the receiving phone has enough free storage.
- Turn on Wi‑Fi. Cellular data can be turned off if you want to avoid mobile-data use.
- Keep Xender open and in the foreground; prevent the screens from locking during a large transfer.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or network-management profile if local discovery fails.

- Local Network: lets Xender discover nearby devices. Review it at Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. iOS 14 and later require apps that browse the local network to request this access; see Apple’s explanation at Apple Support.
- Photos: required to select photos and videos and, depending on the workflow, save them.
- Camera: required when Xender’s in-app QR scanner is used.
You can review Photos, Camera and other app permissions under Settings → Privacy & Security. Limited Photos access can make only part of your library visible.
Transfer files from iPhone to Android
- Install and open Xender on both phones. Grant the iPhone permissions requested by the app.
- Choose the sending mode on the iPhone. In the newer interface, tap X, then Send.
- Select the files. Pick photos, videos, music or documents. Selection depends on the permissions granted to Xender.
- Prepare the Android phone. Tap Receive or the connection control offered by that build. Some versions show Search Group or Connect iPhone.
- Connect the phones. Accept the prompt or scan the displayed QR code with Xender’s scanner. If the current labels are absent, the older terminology in Xender’s FAQ is + → Create Group on one phone and + → Join Group on the other, or + → Connect iPhone for the Android-to-iPhone route: Xender FAQ.
- Approve the connection and start the transfer. Keep both apps open until the progress indicator reaches completion.
- Verify the Android copy. Check the destination shown by Xender. Depending on the phone and app build, it may be Xender’s file manager, Downloads, Gallery/Photos or another device-storage folder.

Transfer files from Android to iPhone
- On Android, open Xender, tap X, choose Send, and select the files.
- Have Xender display the QR code.
- On the iPhone, tap Receive, then Connect to Android.
- Scan the Android QR code with Xender and approve the connection.
- Wait for the transfer to finish, then use the current Save, Export or Share control to place items in Photos or Files.
A file being received by Xender is not necessarily already in Apple Photos or the Files app. The exact destination and export button depend on the current Xender build and the file type.
Transfer files between two iPhones
- Connect both iPhones to the same Wi‑Fi network.
- Open Xender on both devices; choose Send on the source and Receive on the destination.
- Let the phones search for each other, accept the connection, select the files and wait for completion.

AirDrop may be simpler for Apple-only sharing
For nearby iPhones, iPads and Macs, AirDrop is built into iOS. Both devices normally need Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth enabled, and the recipient accepts or declines each encrypted transfer. Apple says AirDrop works within about 30 feet (10 meters); its current guide also documents an option to continue over cellular data after leaving Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth range. See Apple’s AirDrop guide. AirDrop is not the general cross-platform choice for Android recipients.
Where files are saved on an iPhone
Photos and videos
Look for Xender’s Save or Export to Photos action. If you do not use it, the item may remain inside Xender rather than appearing in Photos. Large videos need sufficient storage and may take longer to process.

Documents, PDFs and ZIP files
Received documents may stay in Xender until you choose Share or Export and select Files. Check Files → On My iPhone, Files → Downloads and any folder you selected. Apple documents file-copy and sharing controls in the Files app at Send files from the Files app.
Music and Android packages
Music can transfer as a file, but it does not automatically become part of Apple Music’s managed library. An Android APK can be copied, yet iOS cannot install or run an APK.

Does Xender need internet or mobile data?
Xender says its transfer uses a direct local wireless connection or a phone-created Wi‑Fi hotspot and does not use mobile data for the file transfer. In practical terms, “offline” means no cellular data or internet connection is required—not that Wi‑Fi radios can be turned off. Same-Wi‑Fi transfers use the local network; hotspot mode creates a temporary link between the phones. App downloads, updates, advertising, analytics and other online features can still use the internet. Xender’s statements are at the FAQ and support page.
Fix Xender when the phones cannot connect

Privacy and practical safety
- Grant only the permissions needed for the files you intend to move, and revoke them later under Settings → Privacy & Security if desired.
- Confirm the recipient’s device before accepting a connection or sending sensitive material.
- Do not delete the original until the copied file opens and plays correctly.
- Xender’s local-transfer design does not by itself guarantee security; treat an unknown nearby device as untrusted.
