The price math behind the “$999 off” headline
There are two very different claims a headline can make: $999 taken off the phone’s price, or a phone that ends up costing about $999.99. Samsung’s published offer supports the second interpretation: a maximum trade-in credit applied to the purchase, not an unconditional price cut.

Prices come from Samsung’s U.S. MSRP list (PDF). The $999.99 calculation applies only to the 256GB model and only if Samsung grants the full $1,000 credit. A previous promotion reportedly offered the 512GB Fold7 for $999.99 with trade-in and $1,699.99 without it, but that was a specific, dated deal—not proof of a permanent price.

Samsung’s launch announcement lists a $1,999.99 starting price and up to $1,000 in eligible trade-in savings (Samsung Newsroom). Its current offer terms and qualifying values can change (Fold7 offers).
How to see your real Samsung price
- Open the Fold7 configuration page on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung App.
- Select storage, color and whether you want an unlocked or carrier configuration.
- Choose your old phone from Samsung’s trade-in list.
- Answer the condition questions accurately.
- Review the instant credit and final checkout total before paying.
- After delivery, back up the old phone, factory-reset it, remove your accounts and disable software locks.
- Ship it within Samsung’s stated deadline, generally 15 days after receiving the new phone, and keep the receipt and tracking number.
The credit appears at checkout, but it remains subject to Samsung’s inspection. The live quote—not a banner advertising “up to $1,000”—is the number that matters.
Who can receive the full $1,000?
Samsung does not publish one permanent $1,000 value for every old handset. The selector determines the amount for each model and condition, and Samsung may change those values. The highest credits are generally aimed at recent premium Galaxy Z Fold phones, high-end Galaxy S models and recent iPhones in qualifying condition. Do not assume an older budget phone, leased handset, blacklisted device or heavily damaged phone will receive the maximum.

Samsung may list a separate cracked-screen allowance for particular models. That exception applies only where the live terms explicitly say it does; it does not make every cracked phone eligible for full credit.
Trade-in conditions that can trigger a chargeback
- The phone must power on, hold a charge and stay on normally.
- The display must function, with no prohibited cracks, breaks or defects beyond normal wear.
- There must be no liquid damage, blacklisting or other condition excluded by Samsung’s terms.
- Where applicable, the device must have a verifiable FCC ID.
- You must own the phone; leased or unpaid-finance devices are not automatically eligible.
- Factory reset the handset, remove personal data and disable activation or screen locks.
If you miss the shipping deadline, Samsung can reverse the anticipated credit. If inspection finds that the device fails the stated requirements, Samsung’s Fold7 terms allow a chargeback of the credit, less $25 under the cited conditions (terms). Photograph the powered-on screen, frame, serial number, reset screen and packaging before shipment. If Samsung downgrades or rejects the device, review the inspection notice and contact trade-in support promptly.

Samsung.com credit is not the same as a carrier “$1,000 off”
With a direct Samsung purchase, the anticipated trade-in value reduces the checkout price immediately. Carrier offers commonly distribute promotional value as monthly bill credits over a financing term and may require a particular unlimited plan, activation or continued service. An unlocked Samsung purchase avoids that carrier commitment but can have different pricing.
Samsung says its trade-in promotion generally cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier or retailer promotions unless the specific terms expressly allow stacking (Samsung trade-in terms). Check student, military, government, employee, Shop App, Rewards, card, storage-upgrade and accessory incentives separately instead of adding them to the headline price.

What “starting at $999.99” leaves out
- Sales tax and any applicable shipping.
- Samsung Care+, accessories and other add-ons.
- Financing interest or fees; a $999.99 financed balance is not a $999.99 cash payment.
- Carrier activation charges or a required wireless plan on carrier transactions.
- The resale value of the phone you surrender.
Use this comparison: effective cost = checkout price + tax and required fees − realistic value of your old phone. Samsung’s instant credit buys convenience and speed. A private sale may return more, but it adds listing work, fraud risk and waiting. A carrier promotion may advertise more, while binding you to a plan and installment schedule.

Samsung positions the Fold7 as its thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet, with a large fold-out screen, flagship hardware and Galaxy ecosystem integration (Samsung product announcement). At about half of the 256GB launch price, the deal is most compelling for buyers who specifically want foldable multitasking and already own a high-value phone Samsung will credit generously.

Buy if
- Your live quote is close to the advertised maximum and the 256GB capacity suits you.
- You want an unlocked, direct Samsung purchase and can meet the inspection deadline.
- You value a foldable workspace more than minimizing ownership cost.
Skip or compare alternatives if
- Your old phone receives a low quote or you could sell it for substantially more.
- You need the lowest total cost, simpler durability or predictable repair expenses.
- You are considering 512GB or 1TB; those tiers do not become $999.99 merely because the 256GB model can.
- A discounted previous-generation Fold or conventional flagship would meet your needs.
Before you place the order
- Confirm the exact storage tier, color and unlocked/carrier configuration.
- Record the trade-in model, condition answers and quoted credit.
- Check whether taxes are calculated before or after the credit in your jurisdiction.
- Read the current offer end date, “while supplies last” language and any app-only requirement.
- Decide whether Samsung Care+ is worthwhile; no reliable current plan price is established here, so check Samsung’s official page.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Samsung’s real offer is “up to $1,000 off with an eligible trade-in,” not an unconditional $999 discount. The 256GB Galaxy Z Fold7 can reach about $999.99 before tax only when Samsung’s live selector grants the full credit. Verify your device, condition, storage tier and final checkout total before you commit.
