The strongest current guide to smart TVs under $300 identifies two tested recommendations, not five equally verified winners: the Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K for picture performance and the Hisense QD6QF for value. Three more models had U.S. listings below $300 in October 2026, but those listings do not establish equivalent independent testing. Prices and stock can change quickly, so verify the exact size, model suffix, seller and live price before buying.
The best smart TVs under $300: tested recommendations
RTINGS’ guide, updated September 16, 2026, names the Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K as its best TV under $300 and the Hisense QD6QF as its best-value choice. The guide’s recommendation is conditional on size, availability and price; neither model should be assumed to cost less than $300 in every configuration.

Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K: best picture-focused choice
RTINGS highlights the 50-inch VA-panel version. Its 4K display has a native 60Hz refresh rate; RTINGS also reports 120Hz support at 1080p and variable refresh rate (VRR). The guide notes high peak brightness, while the VA panel typically delivers deeper blacks than IPS panels. RTINGS says 55-inch versions can often be found below $300 when in stock, but check the specific size and current price rather than assuming that applies to every listing.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

RTINGS describes it as less polished, with common streaming apps but no app store and occasional bugs. This is a stronger fit when picture characteristics matter more than interface polish, and when the room or content benefits from brightness and darker blacks.

Hisense QD6QF, 55-inch: best value-oriented choice
The 55-inch QD6QF is a 4K, native 60Hz TV running Fire TV. RTINGS describes its interface and app selection as more polished and wider-ranging than VIZIO OS. It also supports VRR, though its gaming refresh capability is limited: RTINGS says it remains limited to 60Hz even at lower resolutions.
It is dimmer than the Vizio and lacks local dimming. That makes it less compelling in a glare-heavy room and means dark scenes can look gray. Consider it when price and Fire TV’s app selection take priority over bright-room visibility, dark-scene contrast or faster gaming refresh.

How to choose the right TV for your room and use
Match screen size to viewing distance
Choose a size that fits your furniture and viewing distance instead of buying a smaller set just to meet the headline price. The tested recommendations discussed here are commonly around 50 to 55 inches; retailer listings may offer other sizes, but each size can have a different price and specification.
Account for glare and dark scenes
For a bright room, RTINGS’ comparison favors the Vizio’s higher brightness over the dimmer QD6QF. For darker viewing, the Hisense’s lack of local dimming can make dark scenes look gray, while the Vizio’s VA panel is associated with deeper blacks. These differences matter more than a QLED or HDR label by itself.

Read gaming specifications beyond the marketing label
Check native refresh rate, the resolution supported at higher refresh, VRR and HDMI capabilities separately. The tested Vizio recommendation is native 60Hz with RTINGS-reported 120Hz at 1080p and VRR; the Hisense is limited to 60Hz even at lower resolution and also supports VRR. Do not treat “Game Accelerator 120” or “Motion Rate 240” on the TCL listing as proof of native 120Hz.
Choose the smart-TV platform you will actually use
Fire TV on the Hisense is the better-supported choice here for app breadth and interface polish, according to RTINGS. VIZIO OS includes common streaming apps but has no app store and may feel buggy. If a platform lacks an app you need, an external streaming device may be a workaround, but check app availability before purchase.
Quick Recap
Check the exact listing before paying
- Confirm the screen size and complete model suffix; specifications and prices can differ within a product family.
- Check current price, stock, seller and shipping terms. The prices above are dated observations, including a sale price, not lasting guarantees.
- For gaming, confirm the manufacturer’s native refresh and resolution-specific capabilities rather than relying on retailer motion-rate wording.
- For a smart platform, confirm that the apps and services you use are available on that specific TV.
Sources and what their coverage establishes

- Roku’s official TV finder: a place to check Roku lineup information, not a source of comparative test results.
- Tom’s Guide’s budget TV guide: broader market context; it does not make the retailer-listed alternatives equivalent to tested picks.
