Smart-ring fit, phone support, subscription costs, and privacy depend on the exact model and its companion app. Use the maker’s own sizing kit, check the app’s current phone requirements, find out what remains after a subscription ends, and read how the company collects and handles health data. Oura and RingConn provide useful examples, but their policies and features are not universal rules for every smart ring.
How do you find the right smart-ring size?
Use the sizing kit for the exact brand and model you plan to buy. Ring sizes are not reliably interchangeable between ordinary rings, smart-ring brands, or even different generations from one maker.

Oura Ring
Oura says its sizes differ slightly from standard ring sizes and that half sizes are unavailable. It recommends wearing an Oura sizer for at least 24 hours, including while sleeping, before choosing. The ring should feel snug but comfortable; if you are between sizes, Oura advises choosing the smaller one. The index, middle, or ring finger is recommended for signal quality. RingConn
RingConn says its sizing differs from standard rings, other smart-ring brands, and across RingConn models. Its Gen 2 page recommends using a sizing kit because a poor fit can affect comfort and sensor accuracy. The Gen 3 page offers sample rings and lists sizes 6–15, but those numbers should not be assumed to match another model or brand. Check the RingConn Gen 2 sizing guidance or the RingConn Gen 3 product page for the model you are considering.

Will a smart ring work with your phone?
Check the companion app’s current operating-system and device requirements, not just whether a listing mentions Bluetooth. Requirements below are specific to Oura and can change; confirm them on the maker’s current support page before buying.
Oura app requirements
Oura lists Apple iOS 16 or later, or Android 11 or later with Google Play services, and Bluetooth 5.0 support. Bluetooth must be enabled for syncing. Oura says the ring can continue collecting data while disconnected or while Bluetooth is off, then sync when the connection returns. Its listed integrations include Apple Health, Android Health Connect, Strava, and Natural Cycles; availability can depend on the service and region. Do smart rings require a subscription?
There is no category-wide answer. Compare the recurring charge, any included trial, the features that require payment, and what the app provides after cancellation. The examples below are claims for specific products and services, not promises about other generations or brands.

Oura Membership
Oura says membership unlocks detailed insights and personalized guidance. Without membership, the ring and app continue to work, but insights, personal health data, and benefits are much more limited. New members receive one month included. Oura’s membership page, checked October 9, 2026, listed U.S. rates of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year before tax; EU rates of €5.99 monthly or €69.99 annually after tax; and UK rates of £5.99 monthly or £69.99 annually after tax. Rates differ in other markets and may change, so check your region and current checkout at Oura Membership.
Oura says cancelling membership does not delete the account: if the account is retained, its data and account information remain saved under the Privacy Policy. Cancelling a payment, deleting an account, and deleting health data are distinct actions.
RingConn Gen 3
RingConn advertises its Gen 3 as “No Subscription Required.” That is the manufacturer’s claim for this product page; it does not establish that every connected service, feature, future offering, or RingConn generation will necessarily remain unchanged. See the RingConn Gen 3 product page.

What does “data ownership” mean for a smart ring?
The phrase alone does not tell you what a company collects, why it uses the information, which service providers may process it, or how you can delete it. Oura’s privacy policy describes collection of account and device information, details users provide through registration and app use, information associated with ring use, and inferences such as readiness, sleep, activity, and other health-status insights. It says information may also come from partners and that trusted third-party processors, including cloud providers, may process data on Oura’s behalf. Security claims and deletion controls
Oura’s Trust Center says Bluetooth data between ring and phone is encrypted using AES-128, data in transit uses TLS 1.2 or higher, and data at rest uses AES-256. It also describes controls to delete all health data or data from a selected period. These are company statements; the cited material does not independently audit the controls or establish equivalent safeguards for other brands. See the Oura Trust Center.
What Oura App Lock does—and does not do
Oura says App Lock is off by default. If enabled, it requires the phone’s biometrics or passcode after a selected interval and helps prevent someone with access to the phone from viewing app data. It does not stop ring-to-app syncing or replace understanding account and cloud processing. Oura says the phone’s operating system handles biometric authentication and that Oura does not receive or store biometric data. Details are in Oura’s data security FAQ.
