SLB says TotalEnergies has awarded it a 15-year agreement to deploy DrillPlan well-planning and engineering solutions across the energy company’s global upstream portfolio. Announced on October 8, 2026, the agreement is intended to connect subsurface information with drilling plans and engineering workflows; the announcement does not disclose its financial value, rollout schedule or measured operational results.
What the 15-year agreement covers
The agreement names DrillPlan, which SLB describes as a set of coherent well-planning and engineering solutions. The intended deployment covers TotalEnergies’ global upstream portfolio, but SLB’s announcement does not identify particular countries, fields, assets or operating teams. SLB’s October 8, 2026 announcement is the source for the award and its stated scope.

SLB says the software is designed to connect workflows, accommodate custom processes, scale across operations and support continued deployment of digital technologies. Those are descriptions of the system’s intended design and role, not independently verified findings about performance under this agreement.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The release establishes the contract term, the named solution and the intended global upstream scope. It does not report a contract value, start date, phased rollout plan, implementation milestones, integration architecture or data-governance arrangements. Nor does it provide measured results such as faster drilling, lower costs, savings, reduced emissions or improved well outcomes.

That distinction matters: a plan to connect data and workflows is not evidence that the deployment has already changed drilling performance. SLB Digital president Rakesh Jaggi said, “Operators are increasingly looking for scalable technologies that can support more consistent planning decisions across large and diverse portfolios.” This is Jaggi’s statement in SLB’s announcement about customer demand, not an independently measured market statistic.
How this differs from the 2024 digital partnership
SLB and TotalEnergies announced a separate 10-year digital co-development partnership on July 2, 2024. Its initial focus was subsurface applications for reservoir engineering and geoscience modeling and interpretation using SLB’s Delfi platform. TotalEnergies’ announcement also described cloud software for subsurface modeling and applications including carbon-intensity reduction and geological carbon storage.

The 2026 DrillPlan agreement is distinct: it is a 15-year deployment agreement centered on well planning and engineering. The earlier partnership’s term and subsurface co-development scope should not be treated as part of this contract. The agreement brings digital planning software into the well-construction workflow at a stated global portfolio scale, rather than describing a single field or asset deployment. Its stated focus—connecting subsurface information, engineering inputs and planning assumptions—offers a common planning environment for different functions. The release, however, does not specify how broadly or when that environment will be implemented, so it cannot yet support conclusions about adoption or operational impact.
