Yes—Slazzer makes automatic background removal easy, and you can inspect unlimited low-resolution previews without paying. New accounts currently receive two free high-resolution credits, but full-resolution downloads, API processing, desktop batches and plugin use normally consume credits. It is therefore free to try and practical for occasional personal projects, not an unlimited free HD service.
What Slazzer does
Slazzer is an AI image-segmentation service that separates a prominent foreground subject from its background. It is designed for people, portraits, products, cars, animals and other images where the subject is visually distinguishable. The service focuses on creating a cutout; it is not a replacement for a complete photo editor such as Photoshop or Canva.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
After removing the background, you can download a transparent cutout or place the subject on a transparent, solid-color or replacement-image background where those editor controls are available. See Slazzer’s explanation of the service at What is Slazzer?.
How to remove a background on Slazzer’s website
- Open the Slazzer web app.
- Upload or drag in a JPG, JPEG or PNG. The stated input limit is 12 MB and 25 megapixels; images over 25 megapixels are automatically resized.
- Wait for Slazzer to identify the foreground and generate a preview.
- Inspect the edges, especially hair, fingers, handles, wheels and thin borders. View the result against both light and dark colors to reveal halos or missing areas.
- Use the available editor to keep transparency, choose a solid color, or add another background image.
- Download the result. The website preview is free; a full-resolution download normally costs one credit.
The personal-use workflow is described at Slazzer’s personal-use page and in its usage guide.

Is Slazzer really free?
“Free” describes several different parts of Slazzer’s service. The current pricing page distinguishes no-cost previews from credit-consuming exports and integrations.
| Feature | Current position |
|---|---|
| Website previews | Unlimited, free, low-resolution previews |
| Signup allowance | Two free high-resolution credits after signup |
| Full-resolution image | Normally one credit per image, up to 25 megapixels |
| Preview size | Up to 0.25 megapixels, such as 625 × 400 pixels |
| Input limit | 12 MB and 25 megapixels; larger images are resized |
| Desktop application | Download is free; processing requires credits |
| Photoshop plugin | Install is free; processing requires credits |
| API | Credit-based; API previews cost one-fifth of a credit |
| Commercial use | Slazzer’s pricing page says a top-up purchase or a subscription of at least 300 credits is required |
That means you can check many images at no cost, but a preview may be too small for a product listing, print project or large social graphic. “Unlimited free full-resolution downloads” is not supported by Slazzer’s current terms.

How good are Slazzer’s cutouts?
Slazzer markets its technology for product photography, portraits, cars, hair and fuzzy edges, transparent objects, and busy or uneven backgrounds. Those are Slazzer’s claims, not independent accuracy measurements. Treat every automatic mask as a draft and inspect it at 100% before publishing.
Images that usually give the tool a clear chance
- A well-lit subject separated by color or contrast from the background.
- Single products, people or vehicles with visible outlines.
- Sharp, reasonably high-resolution originals.
Cases that deserve extra checking
- Hair against a similarly colored or detailed background.
- Glass, smoke, veils, lace and translucent plastic.
- Wires, branches, thin straps and other fine structures.
- Shadows that should be retained or removed.
- Subjects touching the frame edge or several overlapping subjects.
- Blurry, dark or low-resolution photographs.
If the mask is poor, start with a sharper original, improve lighting or contrast, and make sure the intended subject is clearly in front. When an automatic result still fails, use manual masking in Photoshop, Photopea, GIMP or another editor. Slazzer’s public pages indicate editing and background replacement, but its exact brush and repair controls can change.

API and integrations
Developers can connect Slazzer to websites, apps and automated workflows through its REST API. Slazzer says the API can process up to 500 images per minute, with higher limits available on request. Preview processing costs one-fifth of a credit; full-resolution processing uses the normal credit model. Evaluate monthly volume, image dimensions, latency, rate limits, privacy requirements and whether a credit-based API is economical before building around it. Documentation is available in the API help section and tools and API directory.
Can you use Slazzer for commercial projects?
Do not assume that the two free signup credits automatically authorize business use. Slazzer’s pricing page says commercial use requires a top-up purchase or a monthly subscription of at least 300 credits, while its general terms and conditions describe free accounts as intended for personal, non-commercial use. Businesses should use a qualifying paid plan and read the current terms before publishing client, marketplace or advertising images.
Slazzer’s photography page says uploaded images are not persistently stored and promotes an on-premises option for organizations with stricter confidentiality needs. Those are statements from Slazzer, not an independent security audit. Confirm retention, contractual and deployment requirements for sensitive work at Slazzer’s photography page.
Slazzer compared with alternatives
| Tool | Choose it when | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Remove.bg | You want a focused remover with web, desktop, plugin and API workflows. | Check its current free-resolution limits, credits, batch options and licensing before comparing prices. |
| Photoroom | You need product-photo editing, templates, resizing, shadows and catalog workflows. | Its API page advertises 10 free Remove Background API calls for new accounts. |
| Canva | You already create social posts, presentations, flyers or product graphics. | It is a broad design platform rather than a dedicated cutout service; verify current plan requirements. |
| Adobe Express or Photoshop | You need typography, compositing, retouching or an existing Adobe workflow. | They provide broader editing control; Slazzer’s Photoshop plugin remains credit-based and online. |
| Local or open-source tools | Your images cannot leave your computer. | You handle installation, model downloads and hardware, and output may be less polished. |
Who should use Slazzer?
- Good fit: occasional personal cutouts, quick previews, clear product or portrait images, and credit-based desktop, Photoshop or API workflows.
- Use caution: unlimited HD export requirements, extensive manual masking, difficult transparency, overlapping subjects, or a need for offline processing.
- Test first: hundreds or thousands of images, marketplace-compliance work, precise shadows or reflections, predictable API latency, or contractual service-level requirements.
The Bottom Line
Slazzer is an easy, capable way to try background removal for free: previews are unlimited and two high-resolution exports are currently included after signup. Budget credits for full-resolution, commercial, batch, plugin or API work, and inspect every edge before delivery.
