The Sky-Watcher SkyMax 127 is a 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, but “SkyMax 127 SynScan” does not identify one unambiguous package. Sky-Watcher currently lists an OTA-only model in the US, a Global AZ-GO2 GoTo bundle, and a separate US AZ-GTi GoTo bundle. Their focal-length figures, mounts, control options, and included items differ, so check the exact regional SKU before treating any review or specification as applying to the telescope you plan to buy.
What does “SkyMax 127 SynScan” refer to?
SynScan is associated here with GoTo control, not one single SkyMax 127 configuration. The Global BK MAK127 AZ-GO2 package supports control through Wi-Fi using an app or through a SynScan hand controller. The US AZ-GTi package is described with SynScan Pro app control. These are different mounts and bundles, not interchangeable names for the same product.

There is also a US Skymax 127 OTA listing, which is the optical tube assembly rather than either of those GoTo packages. Its specifications and included accessories should not be attributed to an AZ-GO2 or AZ-GTi bundle without confirmation from the seller.

Specifications and package descriptions above come from the respective Sky-Watcher USA OTA listing, Sky-Watcher Global AZ-GO2 listing, and Sky-Watcher USA AZ-GTi listing. The manufacturer pages do not establish a single universal set of accessories, a common focal length across listings, or availability and price in every market.

Is the SkyMax 127 good for planets?
The 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain design combines a relatively compact optical tube with a long focal length in the listed configurations. That makes the SkyMax 127 a plausible choice for observing the Moon and planets, where higher magnification is often useful. The published specifications alone, however, do not establish how much detail you will see: results depend on conditions such as atmospheric steadiness, telescope setup, and the eyepiece used. They also do not justify a guaranteed result for any particular target.
For a third-party perspective, BBC Sky at Night Magazine reviewed the SkyMax-127 paired with the AZ-GTi Wi-Fi mount. Its observations apply to that pairing; they should not be presented as an assessment of the OTA-only listing or the AZ-GO2 package.

Can you control the SkyMax 127 with SynScan?
That depends on the mount in the bundle. Sky-Watcher’s Global AZ-GO2 page lists Wi-Fi app operation and a SynScan hand controller. The USA AZ-GTi page specifies SynScan Pro app control and built-in Wi-Fi. The separate USA OTA listing does not specify a mount or SynScan control, so the telescope tube alone does not establish that GoTo operation is included.

- VIXEN-STYLE DOVETAIL: An industry standard, the Vixen-style dovetail is the most commonly used dovetail plate for astronomy. In addition to this, all Maksutov-Cassegrains come with a ¼-20 tripod thread under each dovetail bar, allowing users to mount to most photographic tripods.
- FULLY BAFFLED TUBE: Utilizing a fully-baffled tube, Sky-Watcher Maksutovs prevent stray light from interfering with your viewing experience.
- EVERYTHING YOU NEED: The 127mm Skymax Maksutov-Cassegrain comes equipped with everything you need to get started, including: a 28mm 2-inch eyepiece, 2-inch 90-degree star diagonal, and a 6x30 straight-through finderscope.
What comes with the SkyMax 127?
For the US OTA listing, Sky-Watcher specifies a 2-inch 28mm eyepiece, 6×30 finderscope, V-style dovetail, and 2-inch diagonal. That is a concrete accessory list for that listing only. It is not evidence that the same items come with AZ-GO2 or AZ-GTi bundles; check the contents for the exact package and seller.

What to verify before choosing a bundle
- Regional SKU: Match the full product name to the market where you are buying; the listed OTA, AZ-GO2, and AZ-GTi products are distinct.
- Mount and control: Confirm whether the package includes an AZ-GO2, AZ-GTi, or no mount, and whether control is by app, hand controller, or both.
- Optical specifications: Use the focal-length and focal-ratio figures for the exact listing rather than transferring figures from another regional page.
- Included accessories: Ask the seller for the bundle’s actual contents, especially if the listing combines a tube and mount.
- Practical purchase details: Confirm local availability, current price, warranty, power requirements, portability, and app or firmware compatibility with the seller or product documentation; the cited pages do not settle those details for every region.
