To bypass Migration Assistant during a new Mac’s first setup, choose the option to set up the Mac as new or continue without transferring information. Finish Setup Assistant as usual. This skips the automatic import; it does not remove Migration Assistant, and you can use the utility after setup to transfer data.

Choosing the new-Mac setup path means information from another device is not automatically transferred during that setup. It does not mean the Mac’s Migration Assistant has been disabled or removed.

Can I set up my Mac as new and transfer later?
Yes. Migration Assistant is available after setup, so you can defer the decision and transfer from a supported source later. Apple describes it as a way to transfer documents, apps, user accounts and settings. It does not delete information from the old computer or replace macOS on the new Mac.
How do I open Migration Assistant after setup?

Apple’s current Mac help also documents opening it through System Settings > General > Transfer or Reset. The available route can depend on macOS version.

Which sources can you transfer from?

Apple documents all four source types. Follow Migration Assistant’s prompts for the source you select; the steps and available connection options differ by source and computer.
Should you use wireless transfer or a cable?
For Mac-to-Mac transfers, Apple describes both wireless migration and direct wired connections. Apple says a cable connection is often faster than wireless, but it does not establish a single cable or adapter as suitable for every pair of Macs.

What happens if the transferred account already exists?
If an account on the new Mac has the same name as an account being transferred, Migration Assistant may ask whether to replace the account or rename the incoming one. Read that prompt before choosing: replacing affects the existing account on the new Mac, while renaming creates a separately named incoming account. Select the option that matches where you want each account’s data to reside.
What if your Mac is managed by work or school?
A work- or school-managed Mac can have a different setup experience. Apple documents Managed Migration Assistant for Macs registered in Apple School Manager or Apple Business and assigned to a device management service. That managed deployment flow has specific skip-key behavior and states that the Restore pane cannot be hidden in that configuration. Follow your organization’s setup instructions rather than assuming the standard personal-Mac screens will apply.
