Linux Foundation SkillCred exams take 45 minutes, require a score of at least 70% to pass, and are delivered online in a proctored browser session. Before starting, prepare a private testing room, one active monitor, a working microphone and movable webcam, and an unexpired physical government ID that matches your verified exam name.

What score do you need, and when do results arrive?
You need at least 70% to pass. The Linux Foundation says results are normally emailed within 24 hours after you finish; this is a normal reporting window, not a guarantee of an exact delivery time. The current candidate FAQ covers the passing score and result timing.

What equipment and internet connection do you need?
Use a computer with reliable internet, one active monitor, a working microphone and a movable webcam. The Linux Foundation recommends a screen of 15 inches or larger. Dual monitors are not supported. Its technical and setup instructions set the requirements but do not endorse particular equipment brands.
- Check the webcam and microphone before exam day, and be ready to grant browser access to both.
- Close bandwidth-heavy apps or downloads; a wired connection may help if your Wi-Fi is unstable.
- Keep the testing computer on a stable surface and position the webcam so you remain in frame.
Where can you take the exam?
Take it in a private, quiet, well-lit and uncluttered room—not a coffee shop, open office or other public place. Clear papers, writing implements and electronic devices from the desk and floor. Stay visible to the camera, and avoid placing a bright window or light source behind you.

What ID is accepted, and how do you check in?
Bring an original, physical, unexpired government ID that meets the exam’s name, photo and signature requirements. The first and last name on the ID must match the verified name on your exam profile exactly. Review the candidate ID and identity-verification rules in advance if you are uncertain whether your document qualifies.
Before the exam launches, complete the required agreement, identity, system and testing-location checks. During check-in, you will be asked to enter full-screen mode, allow camera and microphone access, accept the agreement and capture an image of your ID. The Linux Foundation says its proctoring service automates identity verification and records exam sessions.

How do the exam tasks and virtual machines work?
Tasks run in browser-based Linux virtual machines. Read both Read Me pages and let the virtual machines finish preloading before working. Submit each response before navigating away; use the flag option to mark an item for later review. Reset a virtual machine only when you need to recover from a VM problem.
- Do not stop or tamper with the
remoteExecutionAgent. - Do not reconfigure the network unless the exam prompts you to do so.
- Use Ctrl+Alt+W rather than Ctrl+W; the latter closes the Chrome tab.
- The terminal is Linux-based. Use operating-system keyboard shortcuts or the right-click menu to copy and paste.
These interface and technical details are in the Linux Foundation’s SkillCred exam instructions.

Does a SkillCred credential expire?
Passed SkillCred credentials do not expire, according to the Linux Foundation’s candidate FAQ. Successful candidates receive a certificate of completion with a certificate ID and a Credly digital badge; the SkillCred program page describes the credential.
