Siri AI in iOS 27 can search personal content, including photos, mail and saved notes, using a description of what you remember. First check that your iPhone and region are eligible: Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models or later with Apple Intelligence enabled, and says Siri AI is initially English-only and unavailable in the EU on iOS.
Check whether Siri AI is available on your iPhone
Apple’s iOS 27 beta requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 16 model or later. Siri and the device must also be set to a supported language. Apple says Siri AI is initially available in English only and will not initially be available in the EU on iOS. If you do not see the beta option in Settings, check these requirements before trying other fixes.

Turn on Siri AI (Beta)
- Open Settings and tap Siri.
- Tap Try Siri AI (Beta) and follow the setup prompts.
- If Siri is turned off, turn it on first, then return to the beta option and complete setup.
Ask Siri AI to find the item
Activate Siri and describe the item and the context you remember. Apple’s documented example for a photo is: “Find photos from my trip to Lisbon”. Siri AI can search photos, mail, messages, calendar and more; Apple’s iOS 27 overview also describes finding an email buried in your inbox or a saved note.
For a photo
Include a distinctive detail you recall, such as a trip or event. Apple’s Lisbon sentence is an example, not a required format; describe your own photo in your own words.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
For an email or saved note
Try describing a remembered sender, subject, event or note topic. These are suggestions for natural-language descriptions, not exact commands Apple documents or guarantees. Siri AI’s ability to find a particular item can depend on the details you provide and the content it can search.
If Siri AI does not find it
- Check that Siri AI (Beta) setup is complete and that you are asking Siri, rather than relying on a different search feature.
- Try again with a more distinctive detail about the item, such as the event or topic you associate with it.
- Consider whether the item is in an app or content type Siri can search. Apple describes search across photos, mail, messages, calendar and more, but does not promise that every item will be found from every description.
- Use Spotlight when a conventional search is enough. Spotlight can search apps and text in photos; third-party app content appears only when that app supports Spotlight indexing.
How Spotlight differs from Siri AI
| Search option | What it does | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Siri AI | Conversational search across personal content such as photos, mail, messages and calendar. | Requires an eligible device and availability of the beta. |
| Spotlight | Searches apps, app content and text in photos. | Third-party app content depends on that app supporting Spotlight indexing. |
Apple’s reviewed guidance does not establish that either option is more accurate, so treat them as different ways to search rather than interchangeable tools.
