What the SinLoon desk button includes
The SL089 uses two mechanical keys as external power and reset controls. Its two-meter cable connects to the motherboard’s front-panel headers, and the kit includes a splitter, RGB lighting, adhesive pads and zip ties. The manual also describes the cable and optional splitter.

The splitter is intended to let the external control share relevant connections with the PC case’s existing buttons. That means the case controls may remain usable, but the exact fit depends on the motherboard’s front-panel pin layout and the connectors in the particular setup. - An open-air test setup: A desk button can provide power and reset controls when components are being tested outside a case that would normally provide those buttons.
The product is a straightforward reach solution, not a way to start a computer remotely over Wi-Fi or from another room. It needs a cable connection to the motherboard.

Check the front-panel headers before buying
- Find the front-panel header diagram in your motherboard manual. Identify the pins and connectors for power, reset, and the power and disk-activity LEDs.
- Compare that layout with the SL089 connectors and splitter. Do not assume the pin arrangement is identical across motherboards.
- Plan the cable route from the motherboard to the intended desk location. The stated cable length is two meters; the practical reach will depend on how it is routed.
- Connect the external control according to the board and product instructions. If retaining the case buttons matters, confirm the splitter accommodates the existing connections before finalizing the setup.
How it compares with a wireless design
Tom’s Hardware also mentions a separate wireless desktop power-button design that uses a PCIe add-in card. It is a different product approach, not hardware required for the SinLoon. Compare alternatives by connection method, required internal hardware, reach, whether the case buttons remain usable, and the price currently shown by the seller.
Price and durability claims
Tom’s Hardware reported the SinLoon at $11.19 on October 6, 2026, down from $13.99. Those are prices reported on that date, not a verified live listing or guarantee of current availability. Search for “SinLoon External Power Button for Desktop PC” and check the listing before purchase.

Tom’s Hardware relayed SinLoon’s claim that the mechanical keys are rated for over five million keystrokes. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently published endurance-test result.
