If SingleFileZ is missing from Chrome’s toolbar, first open the Extensions menu and pin it. If it is not listed there, check More → Extensions → Manage extensions to see whether it is installed, turned off, corrupted, or marked unsupported. If Chrome blocks it—or you mainly need its self-extracting-file feature—the maintainer’s current guidance is to use SingleFile, into which SingleFileZ has been merged.
1. Look in Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin SingleFileZ
- In Chrome, select the Extensions icon (the puzzle piece) near the address bar.
- Find SingleFileZ in the menu.
- Select its pin control to show the extension on the toolbar.
Chrome Help says pinning brings hidden extensions back to the toolbar, though some extensions may not offer a pin option: Install and manage extensions. If SingleFileZ is not in the menu, continue to the extensions manager.

2. Check installation, enablement, and Chrome status
- Open Chrome’s three-dot menu, then choose More → Extensions → Manage extensions.
- Look for SingleFileZ. If it is present, check that its switch is on.
- If Chrome marks it corrupted, use the repair option Chrome presents on the extension’s card.
- If Chrome says it is unsupported, do not rely on a temporary re-enable as a lasting fix. Chrome’s help explains that extensions may be disabled when they do not meet current requirements and describes limited-period re-enablement; it recommends finding an alternative ahead of permanent disablement. For SingleFileZ’s self-extracting-file function, use the maintainer’s SingleFile migration route below.
These controls and status cases are covered in Google Chrome Help.

If the device or browser is managed by your employer or school, an administrator may block extensions. If SingleFileZ is missing or cannot be switched on in Manage extensions, contact the organization’s administrator rather than repeatedly reinstalling it. Chrome documents this policy limitation in its extension management guidance.

4. Use SingleFile for SingleFileZ’s self-extracting-file feature
The SingleFileZ maintainer repository states that “SingleFileZ has been completely merged into SingleFile.” If your goal is saving pages as self-extracting files, install or use SingleFile and open its options; the maintainer directs users to the File format setting to choose self-extracting files. The repository also says existing SingleFileZ settings can be imported. See the maintainer’s SingleFileZ repository for the migration direction.
This is the most practical route if Chrome will not let you use the standalone SingleFileZ extension. It targets the capability rather than trying to make a potentially unsupported listing reappear.

5. Distinguish a missing icon from a saved-file opening problem
SingleFileZ’s maintainer FAQ says Chrome requires the SingleFileZ extension to view self-extracting files saved to the local filesystem, and JavaScript must be enabled to open those pages. That is a limitation when opening a saved file; it does not explain why the extension icon is absent from Chrome’s toolbar. For new self-extracting saves, follow the SingleFile migration guidance above. The FAQ is at SingleFileZ FAQ.
6. What is known about Chrome Web Store availability
A GitHub issue opened on March 5, 2025 records a user report that SingleFileZ was unavailable in the Chrome Web Store, quoting a store notice about Chrome extension best practices. That is a dated report, not a maintainer confirmation of the cause or proof of the listing’s present status. The report’s suggestion that Manifest V2 might be responsible is explicitly speculation, so it should not be treated as an established explanation: GitHub issue #194.
