Neither extension is documented to save more on every website. Both bundle a page and its resources into one HTML file. SingleFile specifically documents options for downloading resources that exist on a page but are not displayed or cached, including deferred content, so it is the stronger documented candidate when those assets matter. That is not a guarantee of more complete captures: the result depends on how a site loads content, browser access, and extension settings.
What each extension saves
SingleFile
SingleFile’s Chrome Web Store listing describes saving a complete page, including CSS, images, fonts, and frames, as one HTML file. It also lists saving selected content, a frame, or selected links, as well as annotation and multi-tab actions.

Its FAQ says it can download resources present on a page even when they are not displayed or already cached. The help documentation describes an option for saving deferred content that has not yet been displayed. These options make it worth considering for pages with content that appears later, but they do not establish that every lazy-loading implementation will be captured.

Save Page WE
The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes Save Page WE as saving a single HTML file from the page as currently displayed and its referenced resources. It says external stylesheets are converted to internal CSS, while binary resources such as images, fonts, audio, and video are embedded as data URIs.

Where completeness can differ
A saved page is shaped by what has loaded before capture, what the extension can access, and what its settings include. Compare the specific kinds of pages you need to keep rather than assuming a general winner.
- Content already rendered: Save Page WE explicitly describes saving the page as currently displayed. For either tool, content that has not loaded by the time saving begins can affect the result.
- Lazy or deferred resources: SingleFile documents options for resources that are present but not displayed or cached, and for deferred content. This is a documented difference in scope, not a measured success rate.
- Frames: Both descriptions cover frames, but that does not establish complete capture of every embedded frame. Save Page WE says a cross-origin frame is saved only if all its cross-origin ancestor frames can run content scripts. It also says scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved.
- Scripts and interactivity: A packaged HTML page and its embedded resources do not necessarily preserve a site’s full interactive behavior. Save Page WE specifically excludes scripts in cross-origin frames; the material describing SingleFile does not establish that all scripts or interactive behavior survive.
- Offline opening: Open the saved file in the browser and check the parts you rely on. A successful download alone does not prove that frames, delayed content, or interactions work offline.
Which one should you choose?
Choose based on your capture needs, not a universal completeness claim:
Rank #2
- Easily store and access 5TB of content on the go with the Seagate portable drive, a USB external hard Drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Try SingleFile first if deferred or initially unshown page resources are important, because it documents options for them.
- Try Save Page WE if saving the page as currently displayed fits your workflow and you want its documented approach of embedding binary resources and internalizing external stylesheets.
- Test both on representative pages if frames, delayed images, or interactive content are essential. The product descriptions are not a controlled comparison, and no head-to-head completeness score is established.
For platform availability, SingleFile’s project website identifies Chrome, Firefox, Chromium-based Edge, and other compatible browsers. Save Page WE’s listing says it is available for Firefox and Chrome with identical functions and interfaces. Browser support and releases can change, so check the current listings before installing.
ScreenshotNeo: an alternative for screenshot captures
If your goal is a visual record rather than an offline, editable HTML archive, try ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. It captures a screenshot or PDF rather than replacing an extension that packages a page into HTML.
