SILENT HILL: Townfall and the 2024 SILENT HILL 2 remake approach horror from different angles: Townfall puts the player in a first-person perspective and explicitly frames stealth and evasion as survival tools, while the remake uses an over-the-shoulder camera and foregrounds revamped combat. Konami describes Townfall as a story of tension and escalating uncertainty; Silent Hill 2 centers on James Sunderland’s guilt, grief, and existential horror. Those are official design descriptions—not proof that one game is scarier or has more stealth.

How the camera changes the horror
Townfall puts the player inside a first-person view
Townfall is the first Silent Hill psychological horror title described by its developers as having a fully first-person perspective. That makes the view itself a clear point of difference from the remake: the player sees the world from the protagonist’s position rather than from a camera following behind the character. The official description establishes the perspective, but does not by itself prove that the game feels more immersive or frightening.

Silent Hill 2 uses an over-the-shoulder view
Konami’s 2024 remake announcement describes an over-the-shoulder camera alongside expanded explorable areas, revamped combat, and added cutscenes. The perspective keeps James visible on screen while he moves through the town. It is a different presentation choice, not evidence that the remake is less psychological or less frightening.

Does Townfall have stealth?
Yes. Screen Burn Interactive explicitly describes stealth and evasion as survival strategies in Townfall, alongside combat. Its February 2026 gameplay explanation identifies three supports for stealth: the CRTV, environmental opportunities, and a peek system. The CRTV is a device for video and audio signals; a July 2026 developer interview says its ability to handle both kinds of signals broadened its narrative and gameplay role, including stealth.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
The official material supports saying stealth is an intentional part of Townfall’s design. It does not establish how often stealth is required, whether it is more prominent than combat, or how its implementation compares in play with another game.
What the sources establish about stealth in Silent Hill 2
Konami’s cited description of the 2024 remake highlights its over-the-shoulder view and revamped combat. It does not make a categorical statement that stealth is missing. The careful comparison, therefore, is that Townfall has stealth and evasion explicitly identified as survival tools in the cited design explanation, while the cited remake announcement foregrounds combat and camera changes without settling the question of stealth’s presence or importance.

Townfall: tension and uncertainty
In a PlayStation.Blog interview published September 16, 2026, Konami series producer Motoi Okamoto described Townfall’s horror as “less about jump scares and gore, and more about tension and escalating uncertainty.” Screen Burn’s official design explanation also describes a new town, horrific enemies to fight and evade, and story-driven puzzles in a tale of mystery, tragedy, and loss.

Konami frames the remake around James Sunderland’s return to Silent Hill, a place he and his late wife Mary once visited, and emphasizes guilt, grief, and existential horror. The distinction is in the official descriptions’ emphasis: Townfall’s account points to uncertainty and survival in a new story, while the remake’s centers on James and his personal history. Neither description is a reliable basis for ranking which game is scarier.
Setting, story, and release availability
Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror game set in Scotland in 1996. Konami’s launch notice says it is available on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store; storefront details can vary by region. Konami identifies Screen Burn Interactive as developer and Annapurna Interactive and Konami as co-publishers.
The 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake launched on October 8, 2024, for PS5 and PC via Steam, according to Konami. Its story follows James’s return to Silent Hill. These platform statements reflect the cited announcements; they do not establish current pricing, regional storefront listings, or a physical edition for Townfall.
Which comparison matters most?
- For perspective: Townfall is first-person; the remake is over-the-shoulder.
- For documented stealth design: Townfall explicitly uses stealth and evasion as survival strategies. The cited remake announcement does not prove stealth is absent.
- For the stated horror emphasis: Konami describes Townfall through tension and escalating uncertainty, and the remake through James’s guilt, grief, and existential horror.
Both are psychological horror games, but their official descriptions point to distinct camera choices, survival framing, and story focus. They should be compared on those documented design differences—not on an unsupported claim that one is definitively more frightening or stealth-heavy.
