The CRTV is more than a radio: it receives video as well as audio, and the game is designed to use it for scouting, clues and stealth. Whether that combination delivers is the right question to ask of the game; the available reviews offer promising but limited evidence, not a substitute for a firsthand verdict.
What is Silent Hill: Townfall?
Silent Hill: Townfall is a new entry in the Silent Hill series, developed by Scotland-based Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Annapurna Interactive and Konami. It follows Simon Ordell to St. Amelia, a remote island shrouded in fog, where he sets out to “put things right.” Konami describes the game as combining evasion, frenetic combat and narrative-driven puzzles. The fictional island is Scottish by design. In a PlayStation.Blog interview published July 30, 2026, writer and director Jon McKellan said Scotland was the development team’s familiar home environment and therefore a natural setting to depict.
Is Silent Hill: Townfall first person?
Yes. PlayStation describes it as the first full-length Silent Hill game presented in first person. That changes the practical texture of horror: limited sightlines make sound and careful orientation more important, while the player’s view is less able to survey a threat or room at once. PlayStation’s PS5 feature article frames the design around tension and mounting uncertainty rather than relying mainly on jump scares and gore. Those are the creators’ intentions; the two reviews discussed below provide individual responses, not a definitive measure of how well the approach works for every player.

What does the CRTV do?
The handheld CRTV receives visual signals as well as audio. PlayStation says it can help Simon scout roaming monsters, find puzzle clues and explore the island. Its importance is not just that it is an unusual prop: the design premise is that information from the device can influence what the player does next, including how to navigate stealth encounters.
McKellan described the visual feed as opening possibilities for both storytelling and stealth: “By turning it into a visual device where you can watch video signals in addition to hearing audio, the possibilities exploded—from how we handle narrative presentation to how it integrates into gameplay, like stealth.” The useful review test is whether using the CRTV changes decisions—where to look, when to move, or how to approach a puzzle—rather than merely adding an atmospheric effect.

The available review coverage is positive overall, but it is a small sample and should not be mistaken for broad critical consensus. The outlets also do not provide a controlled comparison of PC and PS5 performance.

These reviews point to the most useful questions for a player weighing the game: does the first-person perspective sustain tension, does the CRTV meaningfully shape exploration or stealth, are puzzles fair, and do combat and avoidance work together? Story, atmosphere and technical performance also matter. The reviews do not establish which platform performs better, and they do not establish an industry-wide review score.

Silent Hill: Townfall released on September 24, 2026. Konami lists PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its announcement also specifies physical PS5 versions for pre-order; the cited announcement does not establish a physical PC edition.
