Silent Hill: Townfall update 1.4 makes The Weight less punishing on Story and Normal difficulty. According to Push Square’s report, its grab attack now deals heavy damage instead of instant death, its searching and hunting behavior has been toned down, and the late-game valve puzzle now has an in-game button reference. The report confirms the patch on PS5. It does not establish whether or when the same patch reaches PC.
What update 1.4 changes for The Weight
The Weight is the enemy at the center of this update. Push Square’s headline calls it the game’s “worst enemy,” but that is the outlet’s framing rather than a ranking of difficulty. The changes below are the ones the report describes.

The grab attack
The most significant change concerns the grab. Before update 1.4, a grab from The Weight ended the run in instant death. According to the report, the update replaces that outcome with heavy damage. The change applies to Story and Normal only, so the table below shows what is and is not established for each difficulty.
Recommended Free Tools
| Element | Story | Normal | Nightmare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grab attack | Heavy damage instead of instant death (as reported) | Heavy damage instead of instant death (as reported) | Not stated in the report |
Nightmare should not be assumed to have the same change. The report does not describe any adjustment there, so players on that difficulty should expect the grab to work as it did before the patch unless a later note says otherwise.
#1 Best Overall
- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
Searching behavior
The update also adjusts how The Weight searches for the player. The report says it previously could spend long periods camping in front of an objective and repeatedly searching the same location. Update 1.4 is intended to reduce both habits. The report gives no timings, distances, or other measured parameters, so the change should be understood as a qualitative adjustment rather than a quantified one.
Hunting and tracking
Separately, the report says the enemy’s hunting behavior was tuned to reduce aggressive tracking. Its summary of the update places these pursuit changes on Story and Normal, but it does not give a per-difficulty breakdown for the searching and hunting adjustments. Treat the difficulty scope of those two changes as less firmly established than the grab change.

The late-game valve puzzle
The late-game puzzle asks players to press the correct buttons in sequence to activate a set of valves. Update 1.4 does not remove or simplify the solution. Instead, it adds a collectible manual near the puzzle that explains what the buttons mean. According to the report, the manual can be viewed while using the panel, so players do not have to leave the puzzle to read it.
