Silent Hill: Townfall PC Performance Fixes for Stuttering and Low FPS

Start with Townfall’s official shader-stuttering update and verify version v1.4.153829. Then distinguish stutter from low FPS, compare your PC with the published targets, and test settings methodically.

If SILENT HILL: Townfall is stuttering on PC, first check for the official update: Konami’s September 30, 2026 Steam notice says it reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues. The notice asks Steam players to confirm that the main menu shows version v1.4.153829. If the game is already on that version—or the problem is consistently low FPS rather than brief stutters—use the checks below to narrow down the cause. The update addresses a named stutter issue; it is not a guarantee of higher frame rates or a fix for every performance problem.

1. Apply the official stuttering update

The developer/publisher’s September 30, 2026 Steam patch notice says: “Reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues.” It also asks Steam players to check for version v1.4.153829 in the lower-right corner of the main menu.

  1. Fully exit SILENT HILL: Townfall.
  2. Make sure Steam is connected to the internet, then restart the Steam app so it can check for the update.
  3. Launch the game and look at the lower-right corner of the main menu. Confirm that it displays v1.4.153829.

If the version does not appear, confirm Steam is online and restart the app again before launching the game. The notice describes a reduction in stuttering tied to shader precompilation; it does not say that all stuttering or low-FPS problems are resolved.

2. Check whether the symptom is stuttering or low FPS

These symptoms can feel similar, but they point to different checks. Stuttering is a brief interruption or hitch during otherwise smoother play. Low FPS is a persistently low or uneven frame rate. The official update specifically addresses gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation. It does not establish a fix for every case of low FPS.

  • Brief, repeatable hitches: Check the game version first. Note where the hitch happens and whether it repeats in the same scene.
  • Consistently low frame rate: Compare your PC with the published system requirements and check the game’s rendering load and settings.
  • Both: Treat them as separate observations. Meeting the listed hardware targets does not prove that a shader-related hitch is fixed, and the patch notice does not promise a particular frame rate.

3. Compare your PC with the published requirements

The Steam listing describes minimum and recommended configurations as targets, not guaranteed results for every PC. Its minimum target is Low settings at 1080p and 30fps. Its recommended target is High settings at 4K and 30fps using DLSS, FSR, or TSR in Balanced mode. These are published targets, not independent benchmark results.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 11, 64-bit (Steam listing) Windows 11, 64-bit (Steam listing)
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700K (Steam listing) AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or Intel Core i7-9700K (Steam listing)
Memory 16 GB RAM (Steam listing) 32 GB RAM (Steam listing)
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600 (Steam listing) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (Steam listing)
DirectX Version 12 (Steam listing) Version 12 (Steam listing)
Storage 75 GB (Steam listing); SSD required (Epic Games Store) 75 GB (Steam listing); NVMe specified (Epic Games Store)
Published performance target Low settings, 1080p, 30fps (Steam listing) High settings, 4K, 30fps using DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced mode (Steam listing)

Sources: Steam system requirements and Epic Games Store system requirements. Epic lists SSD storage as required and NVMe for the recommended configuration; the Steam listing specifies 75 GB for both configurations. Check the listing for your storefront if you installed through a different store.

If your PC falls below a listed component, that is a reason to investigate performance more closely—not proof that a particular upgrade will fix your symptom. The target figures do not identify a guaranteed FPS for an individual system.

4. Test settings one change at a time

If the game is updated and the PC meets the relevant requirements, use controlled, reversible tests to see whether rendering load is contributing to persistently low FPS. These are general PC troubleshooting steps, not Townfall-specific fixes validated by the developer.

  1. Choose a repeatable scene and note the current display resolution, graphics preset, and upscaler setting.
  2. Lower one rendering-load setting at a time, or reduce resolution, then revisit the same scene and compare. Keeping the scene and other settings constant makes the comparison more useful.
  3. If available in the game’s settings, try a listed upscaler mode and compare it with the prior configuration. The published 4K High target specifies DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced mode; it does not guarantee that a particular mode will solve a given performance problem.
  4. Restore a setting if it does not help or makes image quality unacceptable. Avoid changing several options at once, which makes it harder to identify what affected performance.

5. Record the issue before seeking support

If the problem continues, collect details that make the symptom easier to diagnose: the menu version, CPU and GPU models, RAM amount, graphics settings, and whether you see brief hitches, persistently low FPS, or both. Note the scene and whether the issue repeats. Use the game’s Steam support route to look for help with a gameplay or technical issue.

The available official patch notice does not document a universal low-FPS fix, validate configuration-file edits or driver flags, or show that buying a hardware upgrade will resolve shader-precompilation stutter. Avoid treating those steps as established remedies for this game.

Release-date note

Konami’s official page gives September 24, 2026 as the PC release date, while the Steam listing gives September 23. The one-day difference is specific to those sources; it does not change the update and troubleshooting steps above.
