That order answers the practical question: “Can the reviewer see why?”
What should a reviewer see before the recommendation?
When an invoice does not match its purchase order, the reviewer first needs to know what was flagged. Kancherla’s interface places the invoice and PO side by side and highlights their discrepancies before showing the agent’s opinion. This is a design rationale—not evidence that explanations always increase trust—but it gives the reviewer the issue being judged before asking them to assess the recommendation.

The example uses an illustrative Meridian Logistics invoice with a separate freight line. The sequence is: compare the invoice with the PO, identify the exception, consult memory for similar past cases, and then recommend an action. The scenario should not be read as a verified transaction.

The demo compares the same invoice with memory off and on. Without memory, the agent has no history to draw on and escalates. With memory, it retrieves a remembered contract change and two subsequent compliant invoices, then recommends against approval. This paired view makes the contribution of memory visible; it is an example of how the author presented the workflow, not a general evaluation of agent quality.

The timings are approximate, author-reported demo figures from 2026, not an independent benchmark or a service guarantee. Hindsight’s architecture provides useful context for the interface: its 2026 paper describes retain, recall, and reflect operations across four logical memory networks (ACL Anthology paper). The product documentation distinguishes Recall, which returns raw memories, from Reflect, which synthesizes information and conclusions and can expose the memories used as sources (Hindsight Reflect documentation).
How can a reviewer check what the recommendation was based on?
Show the memory-based explanation in two layers: a concise synthesis for quick reading, followed by the underlying observations or records that support it. A synthesis is easier to scan, while the source material lets a reviewer verify whether the remembered context actually applies to this invoice.

Citations are useful only if they resolve to real source records. Kancherla reports checking the memory citations against source data before displaying them. For an AP reviewer, that means being able to follow the evidence back to the record—not merely seeing a plausible-sounding list of past cases.
As Kancherla puts it: “An accounts payable reviewer doesn’t need an agent that says ‘approve.’ They need one that says ‘approve, because of these three invoices,’ and then lets them check.”

What does memory cost in waiting time?
In this demo, the reported wait rises from about one second without memory to about ten seconds with it. Kancherla attributes nearly all of the added time to Hindsight’s Reflect call. These approximate figures describe one implementation; they should not be used to predict latency in another application.
The interface labels the wait as consulting Hindsight memory, so the reviewer has context for the pause. That small status message matters in a workflow where an unexplained delay could look like a stalled review.

How should the interface handle feedback and reruns?
Keep test decisions from becoming precedent
In the demo, approve, reject, or escalate actions are retained as memory. That creates a data-quality risk: rehearsal clicks can be stored as if they were real decisions and later influence recommendations. Kancherla describes warning about this risk and reseeding a clean memory bank before recording. It is a demo precaution, not a complete production data-governance plan.

The interface uses Streamlit, whose script re-executes on each user interaction. Streamlit documents caching and session state as tools for performance and state management (Streamlit caching and state documentation). In the demo, results are cached per invoice and memory mode, helping avoid repeating work when switching views.
Escape generated text before displaying it
Kancherla reports that paired dollar signs in invoice totals were interpreted by Streamlit as math formatting. The implementation escaped dollar signs before display. It is a specific rendering pitfall to check when generated content includes currency values.
