To put today’s date on a Samsung Galaxy Home screen, add a Clock widget and choose a style that includes the date, if your phone offers one. The available styles vary by model and software version, so check the widget picker rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same options.
Add a Clock widget that includes the date
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find and select Clock.
- Review the available styles and choose one that displays the date, if offered.
- Tap Add. To reposition the widget, touch and hold it, then drag it to the desired spot.
Samsung describes a widget as “a simple extension of a function of an app that is already installed on the device.” The exact Clock styles and customization controls depend on the device. If a widget can be resized, Samsung says a control appears on its outline; some widget settings also offer options such as size, background color, or transparency. Choose the right way to see the date

Samsung documents Calendar widgets as a Home screen option, but whether the Calendar app icon shows a day number—and whether it shows anything beyond that without opening the app—can vary. AOD is a separate feature for the screen-off state; Samsung’s AOD guide covers its time-and-date display and clock-style customization. Some AOD styles may need to be downloaded or may have a price.
If Clock or the date style is missing
- Reopen the widget picker and inspect all Clock choices; not every device offers a date-bearing style.
- Check other Home screen panels in case the widget is already there.
- Check whether the widget is unsupported on your device or restricted by a managed work profile. Samsung notes that unsupported widgets may no longer be available and that work-profile policies can limit widgets.
- If you cannot add a widget, check whether the Home screen layout is locked. This troubleshooting suggestion appears in Samsung Community guidance and is not a universal official menu path.

Samsung notes that screens, settings, and widget availability can differ by model and software version; region can also affect the interface. On One UI 7 specifically, Samsung’s guide lists the label control at Settings > Home screen > App and widget style. This setting changes whether labels appear and can reduce the height available for widget content; it is not required to add a date widget.
