To show notifications on a Samsung Galaxy lock screen, open Settings > Notifications and enable lock-screen notifications or choose how notification content appears. On One UI 8, use Hide content while locked: select Show always to display previews, or Hide when locked to keep details private. You can also set visibility for individual apps.
Show or hide notification previews in One UI 8
Samsung’s One UI 8 instructions put the global content-visibility setting in Settings > Notifications > Hide content while locked. This setting controls whether details such as message text are readable while the phone is locked; it is separate from whether an alert appears at all.

Choose preview visibility for a specific app
If you want message previews visible but prefer to conceal another app’s alerts, set visibility app by app rather than applying one rule to everything. Samsung documents this route in One UI 8:

- Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app you want to change.
- Tap Show or hide content when locked, then choose the visibility option you want.
This gives you more control than a single global setting: for example, you can allow previews for a messaging app while hiding content from another app. Availability and exact labels can vary across devices and software versions. Samsung’s One UI 8 guide describes both global and per-app controls.
Find the lock-screen controls in One UI 7
On One UI 7, Samsung’s Gulf support instructions place the setting at Settings > Notifications > Lock Screen Notifications. Samsung’s US overview of One UI 7 describes controls to turn lock-screen notifications on, choose a display style, and choose whether content is hidden or shown. It also describes selecting which apps can show content and an option to show only alerting notifications.

Samsung’s US support page does not state an update date in the retrieved information, while its Gulf guide was last updated March 29, 2025. If those labels do not match your phone, check the Notifications section of Settings; Samsung says menus and available options can vary by model and software version. If notifications still do not appear
- Check that lock-screen notifications are enabled. Recent Samsung instructions place lock-screen display controls under Settings > Notifications, though the specific label varies by One UI version.
- Check the app’s own notification settings. In One UI 8, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, select the app, and review its notification and locked-screen content options.
- Distinguish missing alerts from hidden previews. If an alert appears but its message or other details do not, change content visibility; showing an alert does not necessarily reveal its full content.
For Now Bar or live information
Samsung’s Now Bar guidance is a separate case from ordinary app notifications. For Now Bar items or supported live information, Samsung says to check that lock-screen notifications are enabled and review the supported app’s Allow notifications, Lock screen, and Live notifications settings. That guidance concerns Now Bar support; it does not establish that Live notifications is required for every standard notification.
