Usually, waiting is worthwhile if you know the exact TV you want and can comfortably wait—but Black Friday is a good buying window, not a guaranteed price low. Check the price history for the same model and screen size. Buy sooner if today’s price is already attractive, you need the TV now, or the model you want may sell out.
Why Black Friday can be a good time to buy
Many TV makers release new models in spring, often at relatively high launch prices. Prices commonly fall as the year goes on, and holiday sales can offer a favorable chance to buy. Replacement models arriving can also bring discounts on older sets.

RTINGS describes Black Friday as usually one of the best times of the year to buy a TV, while Tom’s Guide notes that many Black Friday models are already relatively close to their eventual lowest prices. That makes the holiday period a sensible target for shoppers who can wait, but it does not establish a universal best date or guarantee a new low on every TV.

Discount timing differs by model, retailer, screen size, and country. Some sales start before Black Friday, and a particular set may reach a lower price afterward—or sell out before then. The advertised discount from a stated retail price is less useful than the price history of the exact TV you plan to buy.

For example, What Hi-Fi? reported that the UK 55-inch LG C5 was £1,050 on November 6, 2025, £1,069 on Black Friday, £965 on Cyber Monday, and £949 on June 5, 2026. This is one model’s reported UK price history, not a forecast or typical result for other TVs. What Hi-Fi?
How to decide whether to buy now or wait
- Identify the exact set. Compare the full model code and screen size, not just a brand or series name. RTINGS cautions that some warehouse and Black Friday sets can use slightly different model codes and have minor differences. RTINGS’ TV buying timing guide
- Check its price history. Compare the current offer with the same model’s past prices, rather than relying on the claimed discount from MSRP. Amazon says its product pages show up to 365 days of price history. Amazon’s price-history guide
- Assess the offer and seller. Check retailer reputation, delivery, return terms, and warranty alongside the price. A low price is less compelling if the terms or seller are unsuitable.
- Weigh the benefit of having it now. If you need a TV immediately or the current price is already compelling against its history, buying now may be the better choice. If you can wait and the current price is unremarkable, watching for later offers is reasonable.
- Factor in stock risk. Older models may get cheaper as replacements arrive, but a specific model or size can disappear before a later promotion.
Early holiday deals are already appearing
As of October 7, 2026, Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days run through October 7, and Tom’s Guide has reported TV offers in early October, noting that holiday deals have moved earlier. That makes early sales worth checking, not automatically worth buying: compare any offer with the exact TV’s price history. Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27, but the available evidence does not establish a universal retailer sale calendar for that date. Tom’s Guide TV coverage

What the examples can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reported that its own record of the 65-inch LG C5 at Best Buy showed a price of $1,699 in late September 2025 and $1,399 by Black Friday 2025. The publication also characterizes its broad estimate of possible savings as informal rather than a scientific statistic. Neither that example nor the UK LG C5 history establishes how much you should expect to save on a different model.
