Yes—if you want Morkvarg to stay dead, lift his curse first, then kill him. Killing him while he is still cursed is temporary: he returns. You can break the curse with the Cursed Fang or by feeding him his own flesh, and either way you can still choose to fight him afterward.
Why killing Morkvarg once does not work
In the Skellige quest “In Wolf’s Clothing,” Morkvarg is cursed. Defeating him before removing the curse does not resolve the encounter; he returns. The practical choice is therefore not simply whether to kill him, but whether to lift the curse before deciding his fate.

Two ways to lift the curse
| Route | What it involves | What it lets you do |
|---|---|---|
| Cursed Fang | Use the fang associated with Einar to remove the curse. | Afterward, you can ask Morkvarg for the promised reward before choosing whether to fight him. The exact reward package is not established consistently across the cited guides. |
| Morkvarg’s own flesh | Feed him his own flesh to break the curse. | Once the curse is lifted, you can still choose to fight him. |
Both routes address the curse; neither requires Geralt to spare Morkvarg afterward. The guides describe the route distinction, but do not establish every possible variation in Einar’s dialogue or outcomes. (Witcher Wiki quest guide; The Official Witcher Wiki; Prima Games walkthrough)
What happens if you ask for the reward?
In the Cursed Fang branch, you can choose the dialogue option “My reward first” after the curse is lifted. The walkthroughs connect that reward conversation to a loanshark in Novigrad, but the precise reward contents should not be treated as universal: the cited guides do not establish an exact package that applies across versions and quest variations.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
Recommended choice
- Lift the curse with the Cursed Fang or Morkvarg’s own flesh.
- If you used the fang and want to pursue the reward conversation, ask for the reward before proceeding.
- Decide whether to fight Morkvarg after the curse is gone. Killing him then provides the permanent resolution; sparing him is also a choice.
A guide warns that “In Wolf’s Clothing” can become stuck, so the available sources do not support a promise that every route or quest state is bug-proof. (The Official Witcher Wiki)
