Yes—if the exact iPhone model is on Apple’s current iOS 27 compatibility list and the specific phone passes checks for Activation Lock, condition, battery, repair history, seller protections, price, and carrier fit. Software compatibility is a useful first filter, not proof that a used device is a safe or worthwhile purchase.
Which used iPhones support iOS 27?
Apple’s current iOS 27 compatibility guide lists the iPhone 11 family and newer listed families, including the iPhone 13 family, along with iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later listed SE models. Check Apple’s page before buying: eligibility is specific to the model and Apple can change the list with future releases. Apple also notes that features may vary by model, region, language, and carrier.

Ask the seller for the model shown under Settings > General > About, then compare that exact model with Apple’s list. A listing’s family name or the seller’s claim is not enough. If you can inspect the phone, Settings > General > Software Update shows the latest software compatible with that device.
Being eligible for iOS 27 does not establish the phone’s condition, fair price, carrier compatibility, or remaining years of software support. Treat those as separate questions about the individual phone and your intended use.

- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Use this checklist before paying
-
Confirm the exact model
Verify the model in Settings > General > About and compare it with Apple’s current iOS 27 list. Do not rely on a broad family label in an online listing.
-
Make sure Activation Lock is off
Apple’s instruction is direct: “Don’t buy an iPhone if Activation Lock is enabled.” For an in-person purchase, have the seller turn it off and let you proceed with setup. If an online order arrives at the “iPhone Locked to Owner” screen, Apple says to return it; see its guidance for buying a pre-owned iPhone. Do not pay on the assumption that the seller can remove the lock later.
Rank #2
Apple iPhone 13, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed) | Unlocked- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
-
Check battery health and messages
Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging, depending on the software version. Review maximum capacity and any message about degraded health or battery verification. Consider possible replacement cost when judging the offer; service availability depends on your location. Apple’s battery health information explains the relevant settings.

Review Parts and Service History
On supported models, look under Settings > General > About. Apple describes component labels such as Genuine, Unknown, Unverified, and Used. What appears depends on the model and its repair history. An absent Parts and Service History section does not prove the phone has never been repaired. See Apple’s Parts and Service History explanation.
Rank #3

- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
- Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a charging cable that may be generic.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
-
Inspect the phone and test its functions
Look for physical damage and test core functions while you have access to the device. Apple recommends inspecting an online purchase after it arrives; once the phone reaches the Home Screen, test it before the return window closes. Do not treat a successful software update as a substitute for checking the actual device.
-
Check the seller’s protections
For an online sale, understand the return period and how returns work. Ask what any “certified” or refurbished status actually covers, rather than assuming it guarantees a particular battery condition or repair standard. Compare seller terms alongside condition and price.
Rank #4
Apple iPhone SE 2nd Generation, 64GB, White - Unlocked (Renewed)- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
-
Confirm the offer fits your needs
Compare the price with local alternatives and account for likely repairs or battery service. Confirm carrier compatibility with the seller and the carrier you plan to use: iOS 27 support alone does not prove that the phone will work on a particular network. Apple’s cited guidance does not set a universal fair price or validate a particular listing.

Make the decision based on the whole offer
| What to compare | What to verify | Reason to pause |
|---|---|---|
| Model eligibility | The exact model appears on Apple’s current iOS 27 list. | The seller will not identify the model or the listing relies only on a family name. |
| Condition and service needs | Battery messages, physical condition, and any Parts and Service History shown. | Damage or repair concerns are unclear, or expected service makes the offer poor value. |
| Transaction protection | Activation Lock is off; return process and any certification checks are clear. | Activation Lock remains enabled or the seller will not explain return terms. |
| Total value | Price compared with alternatives, including likely repairs or battery replacement. | The price only looks attractive if you ignore service costs or lack of return protection. |
| Carrier fit | The actual unit is suitable for your intended carrier. | Carrier support is assumed from iOS compatibility rather than confirmed. |
When to walk away
- The seller cannot or will not remove Activation Lock.
- You cannot confirm the exact model or complete setup before an in-person purchase.
- The seller’s return terms are unclear and you cannot adequately inspect an online purchase.
- The phone’s condition, repair history, or likely service needs make the price unattractive.
